TL;DR: The identification of AKAP13 as a susceptibility gene for IPF increases the prospect of successfully targeting RhoA pathway inhibitors in patients with IPF.

TL;DR: The observation that decreased DEPTOR expression associates with increased susceptibility to IPF supports recent studies demonstrating the importance of mTOR signaling in lung fibrosis, and new signals of association implicating KIF15 and MAD1L1 suggest a possible role of mitotic spindle-assembly genes in IPF susceptibility.
Journal ArticleDOI
An epithelial biomarker signature for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: an analysis from the multicentre PROFILE cohort study.
Toby M. Maher,Eunice Oballa,Juliet Kay Simpson,Joanne Porte,Joanne Porte,Anthony Habgood,William A. Fahy,Aiden A. Flynn,Philip L. Molyneaux,Rebecca Braybrooke,Rebecca Braybrooke,Hrushikesh Divyateja,Helen Parfrey,Doris M Rassl,Anne-Marie Russell,Gauri Saini,Gauri Saini,Elisabetta A. Renzoni,Anne-Marie Duggan,Richard Hubbard,Richard Hubbard,Athol U. Wells,Pauline T. Lukey,Richard P. Marshall,R. Gisli Jenkins,R. Gisli Jenkins +25 more
TL;DR: This study has identified serum proteins secreted from metaplastic epithelium that can be used to predict disease progression and death in IPF.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomarkers of collagen synthesis predict progression in the PROFILE idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis cohort
Louise Organ,Anne-Marie Duggan,Eunice Oballa,Sarah C. Taggart,Juliet Kay Simpson,Arthur R. Kang’ombe,Rebecca Braybrooke,Philip L. Molyneaux,Bernard North,Yakshitha Karkera,Diana Julie Leeming,Morten A. Karsdal,Carmel B. Nanthakumar,William A. Fahy,Richard P. Marshall,Gisli Jenkins,Gisli Jenkins,Toby M. Maher +17 more
TL;DR: Collagen synthesis and degradation biomarkers have the potential to enhance clinical trials in IPF and may inform prognostic assessment and therapeutic decision making in the clinic.
Journal ArticleDOI
The topical study of inhaled drug (salbutamol) delivery in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Omar S. Usmani,Martyn F. Biddiscombe,Shuying Yang,Sally Meah,Eunice Oballa,Juliet Kay Simpson,William A. Fahy,Richard P. Marshall,Pauline T. Lukey,Toby M. Maher +9 more
TL;DR: This data is the first systematic investigation of inhaled drug delivery in fibrotic lung disease and provides evidence that inhaled drugs can be optimised to reach the peripheral areas of the lung where active scarring occurs in IPF.
