TL;DR: The identification of AKAP13 as a susceptibility gene for IPF increases the prospect of successfully targeting RhoA pathway inhibitors in patients with IPF.

TL;DR: The observation that decreased DEPTOR expression associates with increased susceptibility to IPF supports recent studies demonstrating the importance of mTOR signaling in lung fibrosis, and new signals of association implicating KIF15 and MAD1L1 suggest a possible role of mitotic spindle-assembly genes in IPF susceptibility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid Expansion of Human Epithelial Stem Cells Suitable for Airway Tissue Engineering
Colin R. Butler,Robert E. Hynds,Kate H.C. Gowers,Dani Do Hyang Lee,James Brown,Claire Crowley,Vitor H. Teixeira,Claire Smith,Luca Urbani,Nicholas Hamilton,Ricky Thakrar,Helen Booth,Martin A. Birchall,Paolo De Coppi,Adam Giangreco,Christopher O'Callaghan,Sam M. Janes +16 more
TL;DR: The authors' method generates large numbers of functional airway basal epithelial cells with the efficiency demanded by clinical transplantation, suggesting its suitability for use in tracheal reconstruction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct whole genome sequencing of sputum accurately identifies drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis faster than MGIT culture sequencing
Ronan Doyle,Carrie Burgess,Rachel Williams,Rebecca Gorton,Helen Booth,James T Brown,Josephine M. Bryant,Jackie Z.-M. Chan,Dean Creer,Jolyon Holdstock,Heinke Kunst,S Lozewicz,Gareth Platt,Erika Yara Romero,Graham Speight,Simon Tiberi,Ibrahim Abubakar,Marc Lipman,Marc Lipman,Timothy D. McHugh,Judith Breuer +20 more
TL;DR: It is shown that direct sputum sequencing has the potential to provide comprehensive resistance detection significantly faster than MGIT whole-genome sequencing or phenotypic testing of resistance from cultures in a clinical setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic accuracy and prognostic value of simultaneous hybrid 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging in cardiac sarcoidosis.
Eleanor Wicks,Eleanor Wicks,Eleanor Wicks,Leon Menezes,Leon Menezes,Leon Menezes,Anna Barnes,Anna Barnes,Saidi A Mohiddin,Saidi A Mohiddin,Neha Sekhri,Joanna C. Porter,Joanna C. Porter,Helen Booth,Helen Booth,Emily Garrett,Riyaz S. Patel,Riyaz S. Patel,Menelaos Pavlou,Ashley M. Groves,Ashley M. Groves,Perry M. Elliott,Perry M. Elliott +22 more
TL;DR: Simultaneous PET/MR is an accurate method for diagnosing cardiac sarcoidosis and offers complementary information on disease pathophysiology and PET and CMR should be considered in the assessment of disease presence, stage, and prognosis in CS.
