The design of artificial nestboxes for the study of secondary hole-nesting birds: a review of methodological inconsistencies and potential biases

Marcel M. Lambrechts, +55 more
- 09 Aug 2010 -
TL;DR: The types of descriptive data that should be included in the methods sections of relevant manuscripts are listed to improve the reliability and usefulness of research based on long-term studies of any secondary hole-nesting species using artificial nestboxes for breeding or roosting.
Journal ArticleDOI

Monitoring resistance to diflubenzuron and deltamethrin in French codling moth populations (Cydia pomonella).

TL;DR: French populations of codling moth have developed resistance to several insecticide classes and the tarsal contact method for adults was found to be an appropriate method for testing neurotoxic compounds such as deltamethrin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cross‐resistance between benzoylureas and benzoylhydrazines in the codling moth, Cydia pomonella L

TL;DR: Failure in the control of the codling moth, Cydia pomonella L., with diflubenzuron was observed for three years in several locations of southern France and a laboratory procedure was set up to screen field populations for resistance to insecticides.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pleiotropy of insecticide resistance in the codling moth, Cydia pomonella

TL;DR: The codling moth, Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), has developed resistance to various insecticides, and Enhanced mixed‐function oxidase and glutathione‐S‐transferase activities have been shown to be involved in insecticide resistance in both Rt and Rv strains.
Journal ArticleDOI

Variation in clutch size in relation to nest size in birds

Anders Pape Møller, +84 more
TL;DR: Findings are consistent with the hypothesis that bird species have a general reaction norm reflecting the relationship between nest size and clutch size and suggest that scientists may influence the clutch size decisions of hole-nesting birds through the provisioning of nest boxes of varying sizes.
