Measures of star formation rates from Infrared (Herschel) and UV (GALEX) emissions of galaxies in the HerMES fields

V. Buat, +89 more
TL;DR: The reliability of infrared and ultraviolet (UV) emissions to measure star formation rates in galaxies is investigated for a large sample of galaxies observed with the SPIRE and PACS instruments on Herschel as part of the HerMES project as discussed by the authors.
Journal Article

The Mid-Infrared Color of NGC 6946

TL;DR: In this article, the color ratio of the 7-to-15(micro)m emission of NGC 6946 was analyzed for the first time and it was shown that this mid-infrared color is remarkably constant between arms and inter-arm regions, and as a function of radius in the disk.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Survey of Small-Scale Extremes in Extinction at Low Galactic Latitudes Using IRAS Galaxies

TL;DR: In this article, the Tully-Fisher relation was used to study the Galactic extinction in the V an I bands over an angular scale of a few arcmin at absolute Galactic latitudes between 2 and 16 deg.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Deep SPIRE HerMES Survey: Spectral Energy Distributions and their Astrophysical Indications at High Redshift

D. Brisbin, +83 more
TL;DR: In this article, the Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE) on Herschel has been carrying out deep extragalactic surveys, one of whose aims is to establish spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of individual galaxies spanning the infrared/submillimeter (IR/SMM) wavelength region.
