Journal ArticleDOI
Age-related volumetric change of limbic structures and subclinical anxious/depressed symptomatology in typically developing children and adolescents.
Matthew D. Albaugh,Tuong-Vi Nguyen,Simon Ducharme,D. Louis Collins,Kelly N. Botteron,Nicholas D'Alberto,Alan C. Evans,Sherif Karama,James J. Hudziak +8 more
TL;DR: Increased amygdalar volume may serve as a significant marker of anxiety, regardless of developmental phase, in typically developing youths, independent of age and sex.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inattention and Reaction Time Variability Are Linked to Ventromedial Prefrontal Volume in Adolescents.
Matthew D. Albaugh,Catherine Orr,Bader Chaarani,Robert R. Althoff,Nicholas Allgaier,Nicholas D'Alberto,Kelsey Hudson,Scott Mackey,Philip A. Spechler,Tobias Banaschewski,Rüdiger Brühl,Arun L.W. Smolka,Maren Struve,Henrik Walter,Robert Whelan,Gunter Schumann,Hugh Garavan,Alexandra Potter +39 more
TL;DR: This is the first study to reveal relationships between ventromedial prefrontal cortex structure and multi-informant measures of ADHD symptoms in a large population-based sample of adolescents and indicates that ventromer for ADHD symptomatology is a biomarker for brain structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
The initiation of cannabis use in adolescence is predicted by sex‐specific psychosocial and neurobiological features
Philip A. Spechler,Nicholas Allgaier,Bader Chaarani,Robert Whelan,Richard Watts,Catherine Orr,Matthew D. Albaugh,Nicholas D'Alberto,Stephen T. Higgins,Kelsey Hudson,Scott Mackey,Alexandra Potter,Tobias Banaschewski,Arun L.W. Bokde,Uli Bromberg,Christian Büchel,Anna Cattrell,Patricia J. Smolka,Henrik Walter,Gunter Schumann,Robert R. Althoff,Hugh Garavan +37 more
TL;DR: A risk profile containing psychosocial and sex‐specific brain prognostic markers, which were likely to precede and influence cannabis initiation, was identified using machine learning techniques applied to a large multimodal dataset.
Journal ArticleDOI
A split-brain case study on the hemispheric lateralization of inhibitory control.
TL;DR: The patient's right hemisphere exhibited superior inhibitory ability compared to his left hemisphere on three inhibitory control tasks, which support the dominance of the right hemisphere in inhibitorycontrol.
Journal ArticleDOI
Low Smoking Exposure, the Adolescent Brain, and the Modulating Role of CHRNA5 Polymorphisms

TL;DR: Insight is given into a mechanism involving genes, brain structure, and connectivity underlying why some adolescents find nicotine especially addictive.
