TL;DR: The circumstances under which CD8+ T cells specific for pancreatic beta-islet antigens induce disease in mice expressing lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus as a transgene under the control of the rat insulin promoter are investigated to identify the 'inflammatory status' of the target organ as a separate and limiting factor determining the development of autoimmune disease.

Dysregulation of Allergic Airway Inflammation in the Absence of Microbial Colonization

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a model of allergic airway inflammation in GF mice to ascertain the relevance of commensal bacteria on the development of an allergic response, and found that the total number of infiltrating lymphocytes and eosinophils were elevated in the airways of allergic GF mice compared with control SPF mice.
