TL;DR: The updated taxonomy of the family Arenaviridae and the order Bunyavirales is presented as now accepted by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) and additional taxonomic proposals that may affect the order in the near future are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetics and genotype-phenotype correlations in Finnish patients with dilated cardiomyopathy
Oyediran Akinrinade,Laura Ollila,Sanna Vattulainen,Jonna Tallila,Massimiliano Gentile,Pertteli Salmenperä,Hannele Koillinen,Maija Kaartinen,Markku S. Nieminen,Samuel Myllykangas,Tero-Pekka Alastalo,Juha Koskenvuo,Tiina Heliö +12 more
TL;DR: This study has combined a novel sequencing strategy and clinical interpretation to analyse the yield and genotype–phenotype correlations among well-phenotyped Finnish DCM patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of nitric oxide donors in lowering intraocular pressure in rabbits: role of cyclic GMP.
Hanna Kotikoski,Päivi Alajuuma,Eeva Moilanen,Pertteli Salmenperä,Olli Oksala,Pekka Laippala,Heikki Vapaatalo +6 more
TL;DR: The results of the present study indicate that by increasing the activity of L-arginine/NO/cGMP-pathway it is possible to lower IOP in rabbits equally to the currently used antiglaucomatous drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Formation and activation of fibroblast spheroids depend on fibronectin-integrin interaction.
Pertteli Salmenperä,Esko Kankuri,Jozef Bizik,Vappu Sirén,Ismo Virtanen,Seiichiro Takahashi,Michael Leiss,Reinhard Fässler,Antti Vaheri +8 more
TL;DR: The results present a new mechanism of fibroblast activation, which is initiated by interaction of FN with its integrin receptors, and a 70 kDa FN fragment, which prevents deposition of FN matrix but does not interfere with FN-integrin interaction, prevented spheroid formation only marginally and did not block the activation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nemosis, a novel way of fibroblast activation, in inflammation and cancer.
TL;DR: The results suggest that this kind of fibroblast activation (nemosis) may be involved in pathological conditions such as inflammation and cancer.
