TL;DR: A standardized DNA extraction method for human fecal samples is recommended, for which transferability across labs was established and which was further benchmarked using a mock community of known composition to improve comparability of human gut microbiome studies and facilitate meta-analyses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of an Intestinal Microbiota Signature Associated With Severity of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Julien Tap,Muriel Derrien,Hans Törnblom,Rémi Brazeilles,Stéphanie Cools-Portier,Joël Doré,Stine Störsrud,Boris Le Nevé,Lena Öhman,Lena Öhman,Magnus Simren,Magnus Simren +11 more
TL;DR: IBS symptom severity is found to be associated negatively with microbial richness, exhaled CH4, presence of methanogens, and enterotypes enriched with Clostridiales or Prevotella species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of the long-term storage of human fecal microbiota samples collected in RNAlater
Julien Tap,Stéphanie Cools-Portier,Sonia Pavan,Anne Druesne,Lena Öhman,Hans Törnblom,Magnus Simren,Magnus Simren,Muriel Derrien +8 more
TL;DR: Overall, long-term stool storage at −80 °C had only limited effects on the microbiota composition of human feces, similar to inter-sequencing variation and smaller than biological variation (both intra- and inter-subject).
Journal ArticleDOI
Safety and functional enrichment of gut microbiome in healthy subjects consuming a multi-strain fermented milk product: a randomised controlled trial.
Anne-Sophie Alvarez,Julien Tap,Isabelle Chambaud,Stéphanie Cools-Portier,Laurent Quinquis,Pierre Bourlioux,Philippe Marteau,Eric Guillemard,Juergen Schrezenmeir,Muriel Derrien +9 more
TL;DR: Safety results did not show any significant difference between the Test and Control products whatever the parameters assessed, at the two doses ingested daily over a 4-week-period, and Shotgun metagenomics analysis revealed a functional contribution to the gut microbiome of probiotic candidates.
