Journal ArticleDOI
Benefit of Clopidogrel Over Aspirin Is Amplified in Patients With a History of Ischemic Events
TL;DR: The absolute benefit of clopidogrel over ASA seemed to be amplified in high-risk patients, and patients with a history of prior symptomatic atherosclerotic disease had a high rate of subsequent ischemic events.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Alteplase for Acute Stroke on the Distribution of Functional Outcomes A Pooled Analysis of 9 Trials
Kennedy R. Lees,Jonathan Emberson,Jonathan Emberson,Lisa Blackwell,Lisa Blackwell,Erich Bluhmki,Stephen M. Davis,Geoffrey A. Donnan,James C. Grotta,Markku Kaste,Rüdiger von Kummer,Rüdiger von Kummer,Maarten G Lansberg,Richard I. Lindley,Richard I. Lindley,Patrick D. Lyden,Gordon D. Murray,Peter Sandercock,Danilo Toni,Kazunori Toyoda,Joanna M. Wardlaw,William Whiteley,Colin Baigent,Colin Baigent,Werner Hacke,George Howard,George Howard +26 more
TL;DR: Treatment with intravenous alteplase initiated within 4.5 hours of stroke onset increases the chance of achieving an improved level of function for all patients across the age spectrum, including the over 80s and across all severities of stroke studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Continuous Stroke Unit Electrocardiographic Monitoring Versus 24-Hour Holter Electrocardiography for Detection of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation After Stroke
Timolaos Rizos,Janina Güntner,Ekkehart Jenetzky,Lars Marquardt,Christine Reichardt,Rüdiger Becker,Roland Reinhardt,Thomas Hepp,Paulus Kirchhof,Elena Aleynichenko,Peter A. Ringleb,Werner Hacke,Roland Veltkamp +12 more
TL;DR: Automated analysis of CEM improves pxAF detection in patients with stroke on stroke units compared with 24-hour Holter ECG, and the comparative usefulness of prolonged or repetitive HolterECG recordings requires further evaluation.
Journal ArticleDOI
International longitudinal registry of patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke: Global Anticoagulant Registry in the FIELD (GARFIELD)
Ajay K. Kakkar,Iris Mueller,Jean-Pierre Bassand,David Fitzmaurice,Samuel Z. Goldhaber,Samuel Z. Goldhaber,Shinya Goto,Sylvia Haas,Werner Hacke,Gregory Y.H. Lip,Lorenzo G. Mantovani,Freek W.A. Verheugt,Waheed Jamal,Frank Misselwitz,Sophie Rushton-Smith,Alexander G.G. Turpie +15 more
TL;DR: The GARFIELD registry will provide valuable insights into the clinical management and related outcomes of AF patients throughout many regions of the world and across the spectrum of healthcare systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum procalcitonin levels in bacterial and abacterial meningitis.
TL;DR: The results indicate that PCT is a useful additional variable for distinguishing bacterial from ab bacterial meningitis, and in patients with abacterial meneditis, PCT levels do not increase even in cases of viral sepsis.
