Five Essential Elements of Immediate and Mid–Term Mass Trauma Intervention: Empirical Evidence
Stevan E. Hobfoll,Patricia J. Watson,Carl C. Bell,Richard A. Bryant,Melissa J. Brymer,Matthew J. Friedman,Merle Friedman,Berthold P. R. Gersons,Joop T. V. M. de Jong,Christopher M. Layne,Shira Maguen,Yuval Neria,Ann E. Norwood,Robert S. Pynoos,Dori B. Reissman,Josef I. Ruzek,Arieh Y. Shalev,Zahava Solomon,Alan M. Steinberg,Robert J. Ursano +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a worldwide panel of experts on the study and treatment of those exposed to disaster and mass violence to extrapolate from related fields of research, and to gain consensus on intervention principles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neural signatures of conditioning, extinction learning, and extinction recall in posttraumatic stress disorder: a meta-analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging studies.
Benjamin Suarez-Jimenez,Anton Albajes-Eizagirre,Amit Lazarov,Amit Lazarov,Amit Lazarov,Xi Zhu,Xi Zhu,Ben J. Harrison,Joaquim Radua,Yuval Neria,Yuval Neria,Miquel A. Fullana +11 more
TL;DR: A meta-analysis of seven Pavlovian fear conditioning fMRI studies suggests that PTSD is characterized by increased activation in areas related to salience and threat, and lower activation in the thalamus, a key relay hub between subcortical areas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Greater hippocampal volume is associated with PTSD treatment response.
Mikael Rubin,Erel Shvil,Santiago Papini,Binod T. Chhetry,Liat Helpman,John C. Markowitz,John C. Markowitz,J. John Mann,J. John Mann,Yuval Neria,Yuval Neria +10 more
TL;DR: The resilient controls and treatment responders had greater baseline hippocampal volume than treatment non-responders, perhaps due to more robust fear-extinction capacity in both the initial phase after exposure to trauma and during treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute Symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress and Dissociative Experiences Among Female Israeli Civilians Exposed to War: The Roles of Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Sources of Resilience
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that both intrapersonal and interpersonal sources of resilience may significantly mitigate the risk for acute anxiety symptoms among civilian communities exposed to traumatic events.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: It is indicated that cortical volumes in PTSD patients are smaller in prefrontal regulatory regions, as well as in broader emotion and sensory processing cortical regions.
