01 Nov 2016TL;DR: The experimental results have shown that the models, especially deep LSTMs, are able to outperform several state-of-arts baseline methods.
Abstract: Effective machine health monitoring systems are critical to modern manufacturing systems and industries. Among various machine health monitoring approaches, data-driven methods are gaining in popularity due to the development of advanced sensing and data analytic techniques. However, sensory data that is a kind of sequential data can not serve as direct meaningful representations for machine conditions due to its noise, varying length and irregular sampling. A majority of previous models focus on feature extraction/fusion methods that involve expensive human labor and high quality expert knowledge. With the development of deep learning methods in the last few years, representation learning from raw data has been redefined. Among deep learning models, Long Short-Term Memory networks (LSTMs) are able to capture long-term dependencies and model sequential data. Therefore, LSTMs is able to work on the sensory data of machine condition. Here, the first study about a empirical evaluation of LSTMs-based machine health monitoring systems is presented. A real life tool wear test is introduced. Basic and deep LSTMs are designed to predict the actual tool wear based on raw sensory data. The experimental results have shown that our models, especially deep LSTMs, are able to outperform several state-of-arts baseline methods.

TL;DR: In this article, a thin layer of polyaniline (PANI) was applied on the surface of 3D ordered macroporous carbon and a specific capacitance of 1490 F/g was observed over the PANI in the composite electrode.
Abstract: Conducting polymer-macroporous carbon composite electrode materials were prepared by deposition of a thin layer of polyaniline (PANI) on the surface of three-dimensionally ordered macroporous carbon. A specific capacitance of 1490 F/g was observed over the deposited PANI in the composite electrode. Good rate performance and cycle ability were realized on the composite electrode, attributed to the combined contribution from both the unique properties of the carbon matrix (e.g., highly ordered interconnected pores and good electrical conductivity) and pseudocapacitance of the deposited PANI layer. The three-dimensionally ordered pore structure of the carbon favored the diffusion of the electrolyte ions, hence not only improving the energy storage capacity but also enhancing power density.

TL;DR: Benefiting from the structural stability, the porous Ni2P polyhedron used as a electrocatalyst showed satisfactory long-term durability for the HER in acidic media.
Abstract: The development of highly active and stable noble metal-free electrocatalysts of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) under both acidic and basic conditions for renewable-energy conversion techniques is of great significance. Herein, a practical in situ synthesis strategy for a three-dimensional Ni2P polyhedron with a hierarchically porous structure was presented, which was efficiently obtained from a nickel centered metal–organic frameworks (MOF-74-Ni) by direct low-temperature phosphorization. The as-prepared Ni2P polyhedron showed a high BET surface area (175.0 m2·g–1), hierarchically porous property, and outstanding metal dispersion, which well inherited the morphology and porosity of its MOF precursor. Compared with Ni2P particles obtained from a nonporous precursor, the as-prepared Ni2P polyhedron used as electrocatalyst exhibited excellent electrocatalytic performance toward the HER, with a low overpotential of 158 mV to produce the cathodic current density of 10 mA cm–2. A small Tafel slope of 73 mV ...
