TL;DR: In this article, a Dynamic Stochastic General Equilib- rium (DSGE) model is used to assess the impact of the European Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) on the economic performance of a Galician (northwest of Spain) fleet highly dependant on the EU southern stock of hake.
Abstract: What would have happened if a relatively looser fisheries policy had been implemented in the European Union (EU)? Using Bayesian methods a Dynamic Stochastic General Equilib- rium (DSGE) model is estimated to assess the impact of the European Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) on the economic performance of a Galician (north-west of Spain) fleet highly dependant on the EU southern stock of hake. Our counterfactual analysis shows that if a less effective CFP had been implemented during the period 1986-2012, ‘fishing opportunities” would have increased, leading to an increase in labor hours of 4.87%. However, this increase in fishing activity would have worsened the profitability of the fleet, dropping wages and rental price of capital by 6.79% and 0.88%, respectively. Welfare would also be negatively affected since, in addition to the increase in hours worked, consumption would have reduced by 0.59%.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that consumers tend to put a larger fraction of their monthly payments and purchases on the card they spent more on during the preceding billing period, regardless of their interest rate ranking.
Abstract: Most cardholders have more than one credit card, yet, it is not evident how these individuals manage their accounts. In this paper we construct a novel data set that includes information on all the credit cards held by more than 10,000 consumers in Mexico in 2004 and 2005 and empirically study the intra-temporal allocation of debt, payments and purchases among the credit cards consumers already hold. We find that the dierence in the interest rates between homogeneous cards is not an important determinant of allocations. On average, cardholders forego potential savings for a sum that amounts to 16% of their financing cost. We show that non-price determinants of allocations have more explanatory power than interest rates. We find that consumers tend to put a larger fraction of their monthly payments and purchases on the card they spent more on during the preceding billing period, regardless of their interest rate ranking. We explore potential explanations for these findings including unawareness of the interest rates, small stakes, mental accounting and financial unsophistication. Although we cannot fully disregard some hypotheses, the most compelling explanation relates to mental accounting and financial unsophistication. The low price sensitivity can explain why high interest rates prevail in this market, regardless of any search or switching cost. From a policy perspective, our conclusions suggest that financial education could enhance competition in credit card markets

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of different voting procedures on group decision-making in the context of ultimatum bargaining was studied and it was observed that proposers react in an expected manner to changes in voting rule in the responder group.
Abstract: Many rent-sharing decisions in a society result from a bargaining process between groups of individuals (such as between the executive and the legislative branches of government, between legislative factions, between corporate management and shareholders, etc.). We conduct a laboratory study of the effect of different voting procedures on group decision-making in the context of ultimatum bargaining. Earlier studies have suggested that when the bargaining game is played by unstructured groups of agents, rather than by individuals, the division of the payoff is substantially affected in favor of the ultimatum-proposers. Our theoretical arguments suggest that one explanation for this could be implicit voting rules within groups. We explicitly structure the group decision-making as voting and study the impact of different voting rules on the bargaining outcome. The observed responder behavior is consistent with preferences depending solely on payoff distribution. Furthermore, we observe that proposers react in an expected manner to changes in voting rule in the responder group.

TL;DR: A degradation margin factor is defined for the combined MUI and multipath effects and an expression for the maximum number of simultaneous radio links Nu is found in terms of the operating SIR, the SS processing gain, and the bit transmission rate Rb.
Abstract: We study pulse-based ultra wideband (UWB) communications over multipath channels using asynchronous spread spectrum (SS) multiple access (MA) based on time-hopping (TH) and pulse position modulated (PPM) signals. More specifically, we analyze the signal-to-interference (SIR) degradation in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), multi-user interference (MUI), and dense multipath effects (DME) with line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS). In particular, we define a degradation margin factor for the combined MUI and multipath effects and also find an expression for the maximum number of simultaneous radio links Nu in terms of the operating SIR, the SS processing gain, and the bit transmission rate Rb. We consider both cases with perfect and imperfect power control.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used Artificial Neutral Network (ANN) to identify each spectrum characteristic for faults identification and found that depolarization current can provide more detailed information on the condition of transformer.
Abstract: The decomposition of insulation structure due to ageing and faults in transformer will changes its material properties, i.e. material conductivity and its charging and discharging current behavior. The primary aim of this work is to investigate effect of faults in transformer on polarization and depolarization current spectra. This paper also utilized Artificial Neutral Network (ANN) to identify each spectrum characteristic for faults identification purposed. The insulation oil from in-service power transformers with normal and different fault conditions were sampled and tested for Dissolved Gases Analysis (DGA) and Polarization and Depolarization Current (PDC) Analysis. The result shows that transformers with normal, partial discharge, overheating and arcing fault can be identified based on its polarization and depolarization current pattern. The ANN study had found that the faults identification is more accurate when using depolarization current compared with polarization current. A detailed analysis has demonstrated that depolarization current can provide more detailed information on the condition of transformer.
