TL;DR: In this paper, a counseling theory is a postulation put forward to guide the counselor in the process of helping a client with a maladjustment problem; while counseling is a helping relationship involving a client or clients and a professional counselor.
Abstract: Counseling is a helping relationship involving a client or clients and a professional counselor; while a counseling theory is a postulation put forward to guide the counselor in the process of helping a client with a maladjustment problem. Thus, this paper has x-rayed Alfred Adler’s “Individual psychology” counseling theory; covering issues such as concepts and view of human nature; Adler’s explanation of abnormal behaviours, goal of therapy, therapeutic techniques as well as the criticisms and merits of the Adlerian individual psychology and concluded with the implications and applicability of the theory to Nigeria life situation.

05 Sep 2019TL;DR: The herbal formulation used inThis study offered similar therapeutic activities as the orthodox drug used in this study, and can be used as safe therapies for the management of rheumatoid arthritis in Nigeria.
Abstract: Aim: This study evaluated the anti-arthritic activity of a herbal formulation used in the management of rheumatoid arthritis in Nigeria.
Design: Thirty-five (35) albino wistar rats were used. They were divided into seven groups of seven rats each, with Group A serving as negative control while Group B was the positive control. Groups B, C, D and E were induced with rheumatoid arthritis by injecting 0.1 ml of Complete Freund’s Adjuvant into the right hind paw of each rat. The rats were treated with the standard drug and herbal formulation respectively for 28 days as follows: Group C (treated with a standard drug, Celebrex), Group D (treated with the herbal drug, Jointeez), Group E (treated with a combination therapy of Jointeez and Celebrex). At the end of the 28-day treatment period, the rats were anaesthesized with chloroform and sacrificed through puncture of the jugular vein. Five millilitres (5 ml) of blood samples were put into plain bottles for the analysis of biochemical parameters.
Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Rivers State University, from September to December, 2018.
Methodology: The inflammatory markers, tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein, were analysed using ELISA technique.
Results: The levels of TNF-α (p<0.001), IL-6 (p =0.01) and C-reactive protein (p <0.001) were significantly reduced in the treated rats compared to the positive control group. There were significant reduction in the paw diameters of the treated rats (p <0.001). The combination therapy used in this study did not offer significantly different therapeutic advantage over the monotherapies used in this study. The herbal formulation used in this study offered similar therapeutic activities as the orthodox drug used in this study.
Conclusion: The herbal formulations can be used as safe therapies for the management of rheumatoid arthritis in our population. It is recommended that herbal formulations be integrated into our healthcare system in the management of rheumatoid arthritis.

02 Nov 2019TL;DR: A recently proposed technique inspired by intelligent processing in mammalian auditory cortex is applied to load forecasting in the Nigerian power distribution network, Port-Harcourt, Diobu Zone.
Abstract: The current situation of power system in Nigeria is faced with the obvious challenge of circumventing faulty transmission lines and assuring optimum power distribution and utilization. In the context of smart grids, this warrants the need for intelligent solutions powered by digital signal processing engines. In this paper, a recently proposed technique inspired by intelligent processing in mammalian auditory cortex is applied to load forecasting in the Nigerian power distribution network, Port-Harcourt, Diobu Zone. The auditory inspired algorithm is designed in such a way as to intelligently estimate in advance the received energy loading at a particular bus in a power distribution network. Simulations are conducted in the MATLAB environment in order to validate the proposed system.

30 Aug 2020TL;DR: In this article, a review and critique of the evolution of organisations theory is presented, concluding that each theory each has their advantages and flaws but the manager should choose the one that best fits the organization processes per time.
Abstract: This paper is a review and critique of the evolution of organisations theory. Organisations and managers are regularly faced with challenges from the environment of business and these challenges evolve and cause them to shift and adapt regularly and transform themselves to meet the expectations of their clientele. This paper examined the pre-classical, classical, neo-classical and modern theories of organisation to review how they also evolve to meet the needs of the organisation each time. Organizations operate in fluid environments, therefore it is vital for them to align and re-align their elements and structure in order to survive and compete effectively. We conclude that these theories each have their advantages and flaws but the manager should choose the one that best fits the organization processes per time.
