TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a strategy as a case study on the use of exit surveys and its importance in governing quality of engineering education focusing on students' learning levels in outcome based learning environment (OBE).
Abstract: Engineering education has a major share in today's career opportunities for the students, contributing to the global industry revolution and in particular to Indian economy. This drastic growth in technical education is not producing at the same rate the quality graduates acceptable to industry, due to insufficient availability of qualified faculty, teaching methodology, evaluation techniques and processes. Mushrooming autonomous institutions are yet another possibilities for quality vulnerability for lack standardization and local understanding of various governance strategies for quality and process followed. Feedback and exit surveys plays an important role in governance. Current practice of faculty feedback by students do not represent the students' learning rather it speaks about faculty attributes focusing more on teaching methodology. Hence there is a need to focus on students' learning levels as a major component in feedback and exit surveys. Author of this paper propose a strategy as a case study on the use of exit surveys and its importance in governing quality of engineering education focusing on students' learning levels in outcome based learning environment (OBE).

TL;DR: A novel method for efficient retrieval using shape analysis of the query and dataset images and the key points of the work are detection of shape and extraction of the features based on the shape.
Abstract: Image retrieval is a process of retrieving the similar images from a huge dataset. The retrieving of images is done based on the query image and the matched feature with the dataset images. In this paper we have proposed a novel method for efficient retrieval using shape analysis of the query and dataset images. The key points of the work are detection of shape and extraction of the features based on the shape. The extracted features are trained by using the support vector machine classification method. The simulation results show the accuracy of the proposed system as 96.69%.

TL;DR: A Graphic User Interface (GUI)-based prototyping simulator that allows end-users to visually design a wide variety of prototypes of context-aware applications, including those based on if-then rules, temporal-spatial relationships and environmental personalization.
Abstract: Although numerous context-aware applications have been developed and there have been technological advances for acquiring contextual information, it is still difficult to develop and prototype interesting context-aware applications. In this paper, we present a Graphic User Interface (GUI)-based prototyping simulator that allows end-users to visually design a wide variety of prototypes of context-aware applications, including those based on if-then rules, temporal-spatial relationships and environmental personalization. The prototyping simulator allows users to quickly prototype and test their applications without writing any code. The designed GUI is very simple and the user can create any situation based on the context by selecting the options provided in the user interface. The prototyping simulator is tested for designing a prototype of reading room, coffee shop, living room, classroom and meeting room. A series of conflict-resolving algorithms are embedded in the toolkit to resolve the conflict among users, devices and sensors. The conflict-resolving algorithms are designed using a hybrid of fuzzy logic, Bayesian probability and rough set theory.

TL;DR: Main objectives in this work are to control the active and reactive power flow, voltage regulation in the network using above FACTS devices and Comparative study of TCSC and STATCOM using SIMULINK/MATLAB is carried out.
Abstract: The demand for electrical power has grown at faster rate due to increasing population. The recent progressions in power electronic area have presented Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) control equipment and these modules enhance the power transfer capability, improves stability, security of the power system. The principle operating modes and applications of FACTS equipment in power system such as Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM), Thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) are discussed here. TCSC and STATCOM, in which one is series compensator and another is shunt compensator respectively, Main objectives in this work are to control the active and reactive power flow, voltage regulation in the network using above FACTS devices and Comparative study of TCSC and STATCOM using SIMULINK/MATLAB is carried out. A case study of IEEE standard five-bus system is modelled in the Mi-power, different cases have been worked out and comparative results are tabulated. Finally the best suited FACTS device is suggested for the application in transmission lines.

TL;DR: The geochemical properties of the quartz porphyries of the western Dharwar craton suggest that they formed from melt generated by partial melting of basaltic crust, subsequently modified by crustal assimilation and crystal fractionation.
Abstract: Quartz porphyry of rhyolitic composition though a volumetrically minor is an important component of metavolcanic successions in the Gadag schist belt in the western Dharwar craton. The quartz porphyries are calc-alkaline, enriched in light rare earth elements (Lan/Ybn ~ 10–20) and with a strong negative Eu anomaly (Eu/Eu*N=0.45–0.58). These features, coupled with high K2O/Na2O (0.8 to 1.46), low Nb/Th (<1), and Lan/Smn ratios of 4.2 to 6.0, suggest that rhyolitic magma formed from melt generated by partial melting of basaltic crust, subsequently modified by crustal assimilation and crystal fractionation. The geological setting of the quartz porphyries and the geochemical relationships suggest magmatism at a convergent plate tectonic setting. The zircon U-Pb age of 2588.0 ± 2.4 Ma for the quartz porphyry, together with an age of 2732 Ma for similar volcanic rocks in the Chitradurga schist belt further south, and 2614 Ma for felsic volcanics from the Shimoga schist belt, point to an extended period with episodic arc magmatism in the western Dharwar craton of at least ~144myr.
