TL;DR: The full LEP-1 data set collected with the ALEPH detector at the Z pole during 1991-1995 is analyzed in order to measure the tau decay branching fractions as discussed by the authors.

TL;DR: The anisotropy of the effective charge tensor is shown to be crucial for reproducing the LO-TO splittings and a one-parameter scissors operator gives the dielectric tensor within 0.5% of the experimental value.
Abstract: A new method is introduced to calculate response functions within density-functional theory. It uses a conjugate-gradient algorithm applied to a variational expression from perturbation theory. The dielectric tensor, effective charges, and TO and LO phonons at q=0 in alpha-quartz are obtained. A one-parameter scissors operator gives the dielectric tensor within 0.5% of the experimental value. The anisotropy of the effective charge tensor is shown to be crucial for reproducing the LO-TO splittings.

TL;DR: It is concluded that H NF6 is essential for differentiation and morphogenesis of the biliary tract and that intrahepatic bile duct development is controlled by a HNF6-->HNF1beta cascade.
Abstract: During liver development, hepatoblasts differentiate into hepatocytes or biliary epithelial cells (BEC). The BEC delineate the intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts, and the gallbladder. The transcription factors that control the development of the biliary tract are unknown. Previous work has shown that the onecut transcription factor HNF6 is expressed in hepatoblasts and in the gallbladder primordium. We now show that HNF6 is also expressed in the BEC of the developing intrahepatic bile ducts, and investigate its involvement in biliary tract development by analyzing the phenotype of Hnf6(-/-) mice. In these mice, the gallbladder was absent, the extrahepatic bile ducts were abnormal and the development of the intrahepatic bile ducts was perturbed in the prenatal period. The morphology of the intrahepatic bile ducts was identical to that seen in mice whose Hnf1beta gene has been conditionally inactivated in the liver. HNF1beta expression was downregulated in the intrahepatic bile ducts of Hnf6(-/-) mice during development. Furthermore, we found that HNF6 can stimulate the Hnf1beta promoter. We conclude that HNF6 is essential for differentiation and morphogenesis of the biliary tract and that intrahepatic bile duct development is controlled by a HNF6-->HNF1beta cascade.

TL;DR: In this article, the structure, bonding and defects of half-Heusler compounds are explained in terms of the framework of Zintl (or valence-precise) chemistry.
Abstract: In this Review, the structure, bonding and defects of half-Heusler compounds are explained in terms of the framework of Zintl (or valence-precise) chemistry. This deeper understanding of the structure and electronic properties of half-Heusler compounds should aid the design of improved thermoelectric materials.

TL;DR: In this paper, sufficient conditions for the consistency and asymptotic normality of a class of semiparametric optimization estimators where the criterion function does not obey standard smoothness conditions and simultaneously depends on some nonparametric estimators that can themselves depend on the parameters to be estimated are provided.
Abstract: We provide easy to verify sufficient conditions for the consistency and asymptotic normality of a class of semiparametric optimization estimators where the criterion function does not obey standard smoothness conditions and simultaneously depends on some nonparametric estimators that can themselves depend on the parameters to be estimated. Our results extend existing theories such as those of Pakes and Pollard (1989), Andrews (1994a), and Newey (1994). We also show that bootstrap provides asymptotically correct confidence regions for the finite dimensional parameters. We apply our results to two examples: a 'hit rate' and a partially linear median regression with some endogenous regressors.
