Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in the Losartan Intervention For Endpoint reduction in hypertension study (LIFE): a randomised trial against atenolol.

TLDR
Losartan prevents more cardiovascular morbidity and death than atenolol for a similar reduction in blood pressure and is better tolerated, while new-onset diabetes was less frequent with losartan.

Atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance: mechanistic links and therapeutic targets.

TL;DR: An improved understanding of the mechanisms linking diabetes, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular disease is needed in order to understand how these and other current and emerging therapies might reduce diabetes-associated cardiovascular disease.

Ramipril treatment suppresses islet fibrosis in Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima fatty rats.

TL;DR: Islet fibrosis and the expression of TGF-beta with its downstream signal molecules were significantly reduced in the pancreas of ramipril-treated group than in control and paired-feeding group, suggesting beneficial effects of Ramipril might be related to the downregulation of T GF-beta and its downstream signals in OLETF rats.

β-Adrenergic blockers.

TL;DR: This poster presents a probabilistic procedure to assess the importance of baseline IgE levels in the decision-making process for ART and its applications in the context of ART-informed medicine.

Candesartan inhibits Toll-like receptor expression and activity both in vitro and in vivo.

TL;DR: A novel pathway by which candesartan could induce anti-inflammatory effects is defined, which involves inhibiting TLR2 and TLR4 expression at mRNA and protein levels both in vitro and in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of the efficacy and safety of azilsartan with that of candesartan cilexetil in Japanese patients with grade I–II essential hypertension: a randomized, double-blind clinical study

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that once-daily azilsartan provides a more potent 24-h sustained antihypertensive effect than that of candesartan but with equivalent safety.

Effects of an angiotensin-converting -enzyme inhibitor, ramipril, on cardiovascular events in high-risk patients

TL;DR: Ramipril significantly reduces the rates of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke in a broad range of high-risk patients who are not known to have a low ejection fraction or heart failure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibition compared with conventional therapy on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in hypertension: the Captopril Prevention Project (CAPPP) randomised trial

TL;DR: Captopril and conventional treatment did not differ in efficacy in preventing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and the difference in stroke risk was probably due to the lower levels of blood pressure obtained initially in previously treated patients randomised to conventional therapy.

An updated coronary risk profile. A statement for health professionals.

TL;DR: Using a simple worksheet, a patient's 5- and 10-year CHD risks can be estimated using components of the profile selected because they are objective and strongly and independently related to CHD.

Effects of ACE inhibitors, calcium antagonists, and other blood-pressure-lowering drugs: results of prospectively designed overviews of randomised trials. Blood Pressure Lowering Treatment Trialists' Collaboration

TL;DR: Strong evidence of benefits of ACE inhibitors and calcium antagonists is provided by the overviews of placebo-controlled trials, and data from continuing trials of blood-pressure-lowering drugs will substantially increase the evidence available about any real differences that might exist between regimens.
