TLDR
The results show that mouse fetal hypothalamic cells cultured in chemically defined conditions display the same ability to respond to and to recover from potassium evoked depolarization as adult axon terminals, and offer a suitable model for analysis of the mechanisms involved in membrane traffic in central neurons.About:

Polyunsaturated phospholipids facilitate membrane deformation and fission by endocytic proteins
Mathieu Pinot,Stefano Vanni,Sophie Pagnotta,Sandra Lacas-Gervais,Laurie-Anne Payet,Thierry Ferreira,Romain Gautier,Bruno Goud,Bruno Antonny,Hélène Barelli +9 more
TL;DR: Phospholipids with polyunsaturated acyl chains are extremely abundant in a few specialized cellular organelles such as synaptic vesicles and photoreceptor discs, but their effect on membrane properties is poorly understood and it is found that polyuns saturated PLs increased the ability of dynamin and endophilin to deform and vesiculate synthetic membranes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Arachidonic acid as a neurotoxic and neurotrophic substance
Hiroshi Katsuki,Shoki Okuda +1 more
TL;DR: A wide variety of properties of arachidonic acid in the mammalian nervous system especially in the brain are summarized, including induction of cell death, promotion of cell survival and enhancement of neurite extension.

Growth, development and differentiation: a functional food science approach
Berthold Koletzko,Peter Aggett,J. G. Bindels,P. Bung,Pascal Ferré,Angel Gil,Michael J. Lentze,Marcel Roberfroid,S. Strobel +8 more
TL;DR: There are indications for some beneficial effects of functional foods on the developing immune response, for example induced by antioxidant vitamins, trace elements, fatty acids, arginine, nucleotides, and altered antigen contents in infant foods.

From zero to six double bonds: phospholipid unsaturation and organelle function
TL;DR: A rationale for PL acyl chain remodeling by acyltransferases is suggested and a molecular explanation for the importance of a balanced fatty acid diet is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids increase the neurite outgrowth of rat sensory neurones throughout development and in aged animals.
TL;DR: The results show that omega-3 PUFA have a marked neurite-promoting potential in neurones from adult and aged animals, and in particular DHA was still prominent in aged tissue.

The fluid mosaic model of the structure of cell membranes.
S. J. Singer,Garth L. Nicolson +1 more
TL;DR: Results strongly indicate that the bivalent antibodies produce an aggregation of the surface immunoglobulin molecules in the plane of the membrane, which can occur only if the immunoglOBulin molecules are free to diffuse in the membrane.

Growth of a rat neuroblastoma cell line in serum-free supplemented medium.
Jane E. Bottenstein,Gordon Sato +1 more
TL;DR: The rat neuroblastoma B104 cell line was able to proliferate in the absence of serum in synthetic medium supplemented with insulin, transferrin, progesterone, selenium, and putrescine, and in combination there was a marked synergistic effect on cell number.

Evidence for recycling of synaptic vesicle membrane during transmitter release at the frog neuromuscular junction
John E. Heuser,Thomas S. Reese +1 more
TL;DR: During stimulation the intracellular compartments of this synapse change shape and take up extracellular protein in a manner which indicates that synaptic vesicle membrane added to the surface during exocytosis is retrieved by coated vesicles and recycled into new synaptic vESicles by way of intermediate cisternae.
Journal ArticleDOI
Turnover of transmitter and synaptic vesicles at the frog neuromuscular junction
TL;DR: It is suggested that synaptic vesicles fuse with, and re-form from, the membrane of the nerve terminal during and after stimulation and that the re-formed vesicle can store and release transmitter.
