TLDR
In this paper, a technique for patterning a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on a gold substrate using an elastomer stamp was described, followed by selective etching in an aqueous, basic solution of cyanide ion and dissolved dioxygen (1M KOH, 0.1 M KCN).
Abstract
This letter describes a technique that can be used to produce well‐defined features of gold. The technique involves patterning of a self‐assembled monolayer (SAM) on a gold substrate using an elastomer stamp (fabricated either from a phenol‐formaldehyde polymer or polydimethylsiloxane), followed by selective etching in an aqueous, basic solution of cyanide ion and dissolved dioxygen (1M KOH, 0.1 M KCN). Electrically conductive structures of gold with dimensions as small as 1 μm have been produced using this procedure. Once a rubber stamp is fabricated, patterning and etching of gold substrates is straightforward. This method is convenient, does not require routine access to clean rooms and photolithographic equipment, and can be used to produce multiple copies of a pattern.

Mapping fluctuations in biomembranes adhered to micropatterns

TL;DR: This work studied biomembrane fluctuations by calculating the instantaneous shape of model membranes adhered to micro-patterned substrates, using micro-interferometry and revealed that on the structured adhesive substrates GUVs exhibit regions of bound and fluctuating membrane, in accordance with the underlying pattern.

Etchant solutions and additives therefor

TL;DR: In this article, an etchant solution according to the present invention for patterned etching of at least one surface or surface coating of a substrate comprises nitric acid, a nitrite salt, a halogenated organic acid represented by the formula C(H)n(Hal), where Hal represents bromo, chloro, fluoro or iodo, with the proviso that m + n = 3; o is 0 or 1, p is 1 or 2; q + m = 1, 2, 3 or 4; and balance water.
