Improvements to a MODIS global terrestrial evapotranspiration algorithm
TLDR
In this article, an improved version of the global evapotranspiration (ET) algorithm based on MODIS and global meteorology data has been proposed, which simplifies the calculation of vegetation cover fraction, calculating ET as the sum of daytime and nighttime components, adding soil heat flux calculation, improving estimates of stomatal conductance, aerodynamic resistance and boundary layer resistance, separating dry canopy surface from the wet and dividing soil surface into saturated wet surface and moist surface.About:

Prospects for the sustainability of social-ecological systems (SES) on the Mongolian plateau: five critical issues
Jiquan Chen,Ranjeet John,Ranjeet John,Ge Sun,Peilei Fan,Geoffrey M. Henebry,María E. Fernández-Giménez,Yaoqi Zhang,Hogeun Park,Hogeun Park,Li Tian,Pavel Ya. Groisman,Zutao Ouyang,Ginger R.H. Allington,Jianguo Wu,Changliang Shao,Amartuvshin Amarjargal,Gang Dong,Garik Gutman,Falk Huettmann,Raffaele Lafortezza,Raffaele Lafortezza,Connor Crank,Jiaguo Qi +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify five critical issues facing the social-ecological systems (SES): (1) divergent anduncertain changes in social and ecological characteristics; (2)declining prevalence of nomadism; (3) consequences of rapidurbanization in transitional economies; (4) theunsustainability of large-scale afforestationefforts in the semi-arid andarid areas of InnerMongolia; and (5) the role of institutional changes in shaping the SESon the Plateau.

Spatial and temporal variability of freshwater discharge into the Gulf of Alaska
TL;DR: In this paper, a study of the freshwater discharge into the Gulf of Alaska (GOA) has been carried out using available streamgage data, regression equations were developed for monthly flows and applied to a network of delineated watersheds spanning the entire GOA drainage basin.

Role of Climate Variability and Human Activity on Poopó Lake Droughts between 1990 and 2015 Assessed Using Remote Sensing Data
Frédéric Satgé,Raúl Espinoza,Ramiro Pillco Zolá,Henrique Llacer Roig,Franck Timouk,Jorge Molina,Jérémie Garnier,Stéphane Calmant,Frédérique Seyler,Marie-Paule Bonnet +9 more
TL;DR: The fluctuations of Poopo Lake extent over the last 26 years are presented for the first time jointly, with the mean regional annual rainfall, suggesting that other factors than rainfall influenced the recent disappearance of the lake.

Overview of the radiometric and biophysical performance of the MODIS vegetation indices
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the performance and validity of the MODIS vegetation indices (VI), the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and enhanced vegetation index(EVI), produced at 1-km and 500-m resolutions and 16-day compositing periods.

C. H. B. Priestley,R. J. Taylor +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the large-scale parameterization of the surface fluxes of sensible and latent heat is properly expressed in terms of energetic considerations over land while formulas of the bulk aerodynamic type are most suitahle over the sea.
