Journal ArticleDOI
Salting our freshwater lakes.
Hilary A. Dugan,Sarah L. Bartlett,Samantha M. Burke,Jonathan P. Doubek,Flora E. Krivak-Tetley,Nicholas K. Skaff,Jamie C. Summers,Kaitlin J. Farrell,Ian M. McCullough,Ana M. Morales-Williams,Derek C. Roberts,Zutao Ouyang,Facundo Scordo,Paul C. Hanson,Kathleen C. Weathers +14 more
TL;DR: It is found that in Midwest and Northeast North America, most urban lakes and rural lakes that are surrounded by >1% impervious land cover show increasing chloride trends, and many lakes will exceed the aquatic life threshold criterion for chronic chloride exposure in the next 50 y if current trends continue.
Journal ArticleDOI
Using Hyperspectral Vegetation Indices as a Proxy to Monitor Soil Salinity
TL;DR: The most sensitive band combinations to salt-stress were identified and developed into a satisfied and specific salinity index for heterogeneous vegetation for monitoring soil salinity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improved population mapping for China using remotely sensed and points-of-interest data within a random forests model.
Tingting Ye,Naizhuo Zhao,Xuchao Yang,Xuchao Yang,Zutao Ouyang,Xiaoping Liu,Qian Chen,Kejia Hu,Wenze Yue,Jiaguo Qi,Zhansheng Li,Zhansheng Li,Peng Jia +12 more
TL;DR: A typical type of geospatial big data, points-of-interest (POIs), was combined with multi-source remote sensing data in a random forests model to disaggregate the 2010 county-level census population data to 100 × 100 m grids and showed higher accuracy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Suyker,Masahito Ueyama,Rodrigo Vargas,Jeffrey D. Wood,Donatella Zona,Donatella Zona +74 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the representativeness of flux footprints and evaluate potential biases as a consequence of the footprint-to-target-area mismatch, which can be used as a guide to identify site-periods suitable for specific applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vegetation response to extreme climate events on the Mongolian Plateau from 2000 to 2010
Ranjeet John,Jiquan Chen,Jiquan Chen,Zutao Ouyang,Jingfeng Xiao,Richard Becker,Arindam Samanta,Sanmay Ganguly,Wenping Yuan,Ochirbat Batkhishig +9 more
TL;DR: This paper examined the vegetation response to these extremes through the past decade across the Mongolian Plateau as compared to decadal means and found that the standardized anomalies of vegetation indices exhibited positively skewed frequency distributions in dry years, which were more common for the desert biome than for grasslands.
