Benefits of using multiple first-line therapies against malaria.

TL;DR: An evolutionary-epidemiological modeling framework for malaria is designed and shows that the population-wide use of multiple first-line therapies against malaria yields a better clinical outcome than using a single therapy or a cycling strategy where therapies are rotated, either on a fixed cycling schedule or when resistance levels or treatment failure become too high.

Uncertainties regarding dengue modeling in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

TL;DR: A simple dengue model is developed to answer three questions and concludes that Rio de Janeiro is at risk of a DEN-4 invasion, and stresses the point that epidemiologists, mathematicians, and entomologists need to interact more to find better approaches to the measuring and interpretation of the transmission dynamics of arthropod-borne diseases.

TL;DR: Seasonally-varying parameters such as the latent period of infection in the vector had to be incorporated into the model to generate the correct timing of peak infection prevalence, and changes in such parameters caused seasonal prevalence, but the timing ofpeak prevalence was a result of time delays within the system.
