TLDR
Inactivation of the peroxisome biogenesis gene PEX10 was crucial in obtaining high EPA yields and may increase the yields of other commercially desirable lipid-related products and provides a sustainable source of EPA.
Abstract
Metabolic engineering of the oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica greatly enhances yields of omega-3 eicosapentaenoic acid.

acCRISPR: an activity-correction method for improving the accuracy of CRISPR screens

TL;DR: In this paper , an end-to-end pipeline is developed to identify essential genes in pooled CRISPR screens using sgRNA read counts obtained from next-generation sequencing. But, the pipeline is limited to a small subset of genes.

Chromatographic Techniques to Separate and Identify Bioactive Compounds in Microalgae

TL;DR: The findings of this review paper illustrated that chromatographic methods coupled to different types of detectors have been used as a crucial part of research on microalgal polyphenols, Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (ω-3 PUFAs), and pigments production through identification, measurement, sample preparation, and purification practices.

Multi-Enzymatic Cascades In Vivo

TL;DR: In this paper, pros and cons of enzymatic cascades in living cells are described and the current status of the design and the application of them are highlighted, taking Nature as a model, and application of cascade reactions in organic synthesis offers several advantages over the classical step-by-step approach.

Multi-Omics Reveals the Effects of Cannabidiol on Gut Microbiota and Metabolic Phenotypes.

TL;DR: In this article , the effect of CBD on the gut microbiota and metabolic phenotype of mice was evaluated using 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene sequencing and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry-based metabolomics.

Improving xylose consumption in Rhodotorula toruloides through heterologous expression of xylose reductase and xylulokinase

TL;DR: In this paper , the xylose consumption pathway in Rhodotorula toruloides was investigated and it was shown that xylosose reductase and xylulokinases showed more significant improvements in terms of xyloses consumption rate compared to the single overexpression of Xylos reductases.

Genome evolution in yeasts

TL;DR: Analysis of chromosome maps and genome redundancies reveal that the different yeast lineages have evolved through a marked interplay between several distinct molecular mechanisms, including tandem gene repeat formation, segmental duplication, a massive genome duplication and extensive gene loss.

Production of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids by Polyketide Synthases in Both Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes

TL;DR: In this article, pathways for PUFA synthesis are described that do not require desaturation and elongation of saturated fatty acids and are catalyzed by polyketide synthases (PKSs).
