Understanding a folksonomy as a web classification

Modern tool like computer has replaced traditional methods of storing and retrieving knowledge. Retrospective conversion of manual bibliographical records on online mode is considered to be the first step in the direction of computerisation process in the library. Resumo O desenvolvimento do metodo analitico-sintetico, normalmente atribuido a S. R. Ranganathan, teve suas bases iniciais definidas na indexacao sistematica elaborada por J. Kaiser em principios do seculo XX, cerca de duas decadas antes do aparecimento da classificacao facetada. O presente artigo busca sustentar a proposicao de que, ao unir o principio filosofico de categorizacao (para analise) com a logica pragmatica da indexacao de assuntos (para sintese), quando da elaboracao de sua forma de indexacao, Kaiser concebeu as bases fundamentais do metodo analitico-sintetico. O quadro teorico que subsidia o estudo e formado pela bibliografia pertinente ao tratamento tematico da informacao, notadamente no que se refere a classificacao bibliografica, a catalogacao de assuntos e a indexacao. Adotando como abordagem metodologica o pragmatismo de William James, investigou-se como a sistematica procedimental do metodo de indexacao de Kaiser se configura como precursora do metodo analitico-sintetico. Os elementos fundamentais da investigacao foram os componentes da analise, a realizacao da analise, a realizacao da sintese e os produtos da sintese, contemplando, assim, as dimensoes analitica e sintetica dos trabalhos desenvolvidos por Kaiser e por Ranganathan.

In the last years ontology development has grown considerably, suggesting the maturing of the efforts towards the development of standard vocabularies, specially in Biomedicine, which can be considered as a complex inter and multidisciplinary domain. However, despite the existence of many methodological approaches and best practices to guide the structuring of the ontology hierarchy and its relations, not much is explained about the methods and techniques used to analyze the domain in order to obtain a list of its relevant concepts and to establish its scope, specially if ontology reuse is desired. In this sense, our goal is to present the contributions of Information Science and Computer Science that can be applied to ontology reuse, as a methodological step towards knowledge acquisition. On doing so, we hope to contribute to the enhancement of ontology aligning and mapping mechanisms in the domain of Trypanosomatids

Ontologies have been widely used to integrate information and resources, especially in Biomedicine, where ontologies are diverse, complex, big, and change frequently. The goal of this work is a methodological approach to integrate such ontologies focusing on their reuse, covering aspects from domain analysis through their articulated use, supported by software tools. Our proposal is conducted in the context of an experiment in the Biomedicine area and its preliminary results point to the actuality of Information Science theoretical contributions, allied with Computer Science, and the relevance of the information scientist role in the research scenario of information organization supported by ontologies.
