Purpose/Thesis: The paper presents the role of metadata in the design of website information architecture. It focuses on descriptive and structural metadata, which have a significant impact on the organisation and information retrieval on websites.
Approach/Methods: The article defines metadata and presents different types and standards, as well as metadata’s functions in a digital environment. It emphasizes the importance of metadata in information browsing and searching, and provides instructions regarding including metadata in the websites created directly in HTML and WordPress.
Results and conclusions: Metadata play an important role in the websites’ information architecture. They facilitate the description of digital objects and the creation of semantic links connecting those objects, which increases website usability and makes the information search more efficient. It is therefore recommended that information architects choose appropriate metadata schemes, attending to the coherence and detail of their elements.
Originality/Value: The issue of metadata in information organization and retrieval in web services has not been explained in detail in the information architecture literature so far.

A produção artística é um dos vestígios do patrimônio cultural material e imaterial deixado pelo ser humano ao longo de sua existência. As manifestações artísticas estão também nos muros das cidades, locais que consagram a efemeridade dos graffiti, com suas superfícies alteradas e apagadas diariamente. Diante disso, questiona-se: como é possível garantir a persistência dos graffiti como recurso informacional e, por consequência, atestar o seu acesso e visibilidade às futuras gerações? Como objetivo geral propõe-se um modelo de representação documental de graffiti, vocacionado ao acesso e à visibilidade, com características descritivas, temáticas, culturais, espaço-temporais e ideológicas. Para o seu alcance definem-se como objetivos específicos: avaliar métodos e apresentar instrumentos disponíveis para a descrição do graffiti que deem condições para sua persistência e identificação como recurso informacional. Esse artigo, com abordagem qualitativa e natureza aplicada, busca objetivos descritivos e exploratórios e faz uso de procedimentos bibliográficos e documentais. Como contribuições destacam-se: discussão dos recursos informacionais e da representação documental como objeto da Ciência da Informação, do graffiti como manifestação cultural, da efemeridade da arte de rua, com destaque para os graffiti, e da consagração de recursos informacionais como bens culturais materiais.

The indexing technique based on chain procedure presupposes the classificatory base for its efficiency. Being decimal notational system, Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) inherits some of the limitations of Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) in both the idea and verbal planes. Due to these inherent problems of UDC, when chain procedure is tried with UDC numbers, certain inconsistencies are found. Notational homonym, telescoping, missing links and lack of precision in terminology are the important problems in UDC. Discusses these problems with reference to chain procedure and suggests solutions.
