TLDR
In this paper, diffuse reflectance spectrometry was used to investigate the reflectance characteristics of aerosol particles captured on bulk filters from Bermuda, Barbados, and Izana, and the first derivatives of the spectra were examined for signals from two iron-oxide minerals, hematite and goethite, at 555 and 435 nm, respectively, and evaluated relative to the iron concentrations on the filters.About:

Global connections between aeolian dust, climate and ocean biogeochemistry at the present day and at the last glacial maximum
TL;DR: In this paper, present-day sources and properties of dust, synthesise available records of dust deposition at the last glacial maximum (LGM); evaluate the evidence for changes in ocean palaeo-productivity associated with, and possibly caused by, changes in aeolian flux to the oceans at the LGM; and consider the radiative forcing effects of increased LGM dust loadings.

Direct radiative forcing by anthropogenic airborne mineral aerosols
Irina N. Sokolik,Owen B. Toon +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the global mean direct solar radiative forcing by anthropogenically generated mineral aerosols may be comparable to the direct solar forcing by other anthropogenic aerosols, and the net regional forcing by mineral aerosol can greatly exceed the regional forcing of sulfate aerosol and can even be comparable with the net forcing by clouds.

Saharan dust in the Amazon Basin
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that part of the productivity of the Amazon rain forest is dependent upon critical trace elements contained in the soil dust originating in the Sahara/Sahel, and they conclude that the major ionic composition of rain water in the CAB wet season may be strongly influenced by inputs of material originating on the African continent nearly 5000 km away.

Rock magnetism of Late Neogene and Pleistocene deep-sea sediments: Relationship to sediment source, diagenetic processes, and sediment lithology
TL;DR: This article examined the ability of the rock magnetic properties to differentiate the sediments according to factors such as lithology, geographical area, and the dominant mode of terrigenous sedimentation, which at these sites is via ice-rafting, via bottom currents, or via eolian processes.

Modeling the mineralogy of atmospheric dust sources
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a new formulation to estimate the mineral content of arid surfaces on a global scale by collecting a Database of Arid Soil Surface Mineralogy for eight major minerals: quartz, feldspar, calcite, gypsum, illite, kaolinite, smectite, and hematite.
