TL;DR: A synthesis of the marine phylogeographic studies reveals repeated patterns that corroborate hypothesized biogeographic processes and suggest improved management schemes for marine resources.

TL;DR: The results reveal the profound impact that fishing has had on reef shark populations: no sharks on almost 20% of the surveyed reefs, and shark depletion was strongly related to socio-economic conditions such as the size and proximity of the nearest market, poor governance and the density of the human population.
Journal ArticleDOI
A revised classification of the family Dasyatidae (Chondrichthyes: Myliobatiformes) based on new morphological and molecular insights.
TL;DR: A morphologically based review of 89 currently recognised species indicated that most of the currently recognised dasyatid genera are not monophyletic groups, and a reclassification of the family Dasyatidae is provided and seven new genus-level taxa are erected based on new morphological data.
