Global status and conservation potential of reef sharks

M. Aaron MacNeil, +131 more
- 22 Jul 2020 -
TL;DR: The results reveal the profound impact that fishing has had on reef shark populations: no sharks on almost 20% of the surveyed reefs, and shark depletion was strongly related to socio-economic conditions such as the size and proximity of the nearest market, poor governance and the density of the human population.

Long-Term Evolution of the Guadeloupean Shoreline (1950–2017)

TL;DR: Giraud-Renard et al. as mentioned in this paper used panchromatic and high-resolution aerial imagery to assess the evolution of the coastline from 1950 to 2017 of 19 Guadeloupean beaches, comparing with a coastal vulnerability index to determine the sensitivity to morphological, hydrodynamic and anthropic factors of each studied beach.

Widespread diversity deficits of coral reef sharks and rays

Colin A. Simpfendorfer, +148 more
- 16 Jun 2023 -
TL;DR: Shiffman et al. as discussed by the authors found that overfishing is driving resident reef sharks toward extinction, causing diversity deficits in reef elasmobranch (shark and ray) assemblages.
