TL;DR: The results reveal the profound impact that fishing has had on reef shark populations: no sharks on almost 20% of the surveyed reefs, and shark depletion was strongly related to socio-economic conditions such as the size and proximity of the nearest market, poor governance and the density of the human population.
Journal ArticleDOI
First record of the megamouth shark, Megachasma pelagios, (Chondrichthyes : Lamniformes : Megachasmidae) from Sri Lanka, northern Indian Ocean
TL;DR: The first record of the megamouth shark is reported for Sri Lanka, a juvenile estimated at 18 years old, which is a rare and poorly studied shark.
Journal ArticleDOI
A first record of Halodule pinifolia Miki den Hartog, and new locality of nationally endangered Halophila beccarii Asch, from the eastern coast of Sri Lanka
TL;DR: The first record of Halodule pinifolia on the eastern coast of Sri Lanka, approximately 310 km along the coastline from the previously recorded location (Kapparathota, Weligama) was presented in this paper.

Habitat Preference and Population Structure of Two Data Deficient Seahorse (Syngnathidae) Species
TL;DR: Seahorses occurred in low densities with patchy distribution, with abundance being higher in areas with the seagrass species Enhalus acoroides and Cymodocea serrulata that appear to be the favored habitat of seahorses within the study area.
