Activation of a Floral Homeotic Gene in Arabidopsis
TL;DR: Analysis of a LEAFY-responsive enhancer in the homeotic gene AGAMOUS indicates that direct interaction of LEAFy with this enhancer is required for its activity in plants, and indicates that LEafY is a direct upstream regulator of floral homeotic genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
The genome of the stress-tolerant wild tomato species Solanum pennellii
Anthony Bolger,Federico Scossa,Marie E. Bolger,Christa Lanz,Florian Maumus,Takayuki Tohge,Hadi Quesneville,Saleh Alseekh,Iben Sørensen,Gabriel Lichtenstein,Eric A. Fich,Mariana Conte,Heike Keller,Korbinian Schneeberger,Rainer Schwacke,Itai Ofner,Julia Vrebalov,Yimin Xu,Sonia Osorio,Saulo Alves Aflitos,Elio Schijlen,José M. Giovannoni,Detlef Weigel,Björn Usadel,Alisdair R. Fernie +42 more
TL;DR: A high-quality genome assembly of the parents of the IL population of S. pennellii is described, defining candidate genes for stress tolerance and providing evidence that transposable elements had a role in the evolution of these traits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dual roles of the nuclear cap-binding complex and SERRATE in pre-mRNA splicing and microRNA processing in Arabidopsis thaliana
Sascha Laubinger,Timo Sachsenberg,Georg Zeller,Wolfgang Busch,Jan U. Lohmann,Gunnar Rätsch,Detlef Weigel +6 more
TL;DR: The results uncover dual roles in splicing and miRNA processing that distinguish SE and the cap-binding complex from specialized mi RNA processing factors such as DCL1 and HYL1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomes of 13 domesticated and wild rice relatives highlight genetic conservation, turnover and innovation across the genus Oryza
Joshua C. Stein,Yeisoo Yu,Dario Copetti,Dario Copetti,Derrick J. TL;DR: This study resolves controversial areas of the Oryza phylogeny, showing a complex history of introgression among different chromosomes in the young ‘AA’ subclade containing the two domesticated species and announcing many new haplotypes of potential use for future crop protection.
Journal ArticleDOI
miRNA control of vegetative phase change in trees.
Jiawei Wang,Mee Yeon Park,Ling-Jian Wang,Yeonjong Koo,Xiao-Ya Chen,Detlef Weigel,R. Scott Poethig +6 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that miR156 is an evolutionarily conserved regulator of vegetative phase change in both annual herbaceous plants and perennial trees.
