Journal ArticleDOI

Genome sequence of the hot pepper provides insights into the evolution of pungency in Capsicum species

TL;DR: The genome size of the hot pepper was approximately fourfold larger than that of its close relative tomato, and the genome showed an accumulation of Gypsy and Caulimoviridae family elements.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Selaginella genome identifies genetic changes associated with the evolution of vascular plants.

Jo Ann Banks, +118 more
- 20 May 2011 -
TL;DR: The genome sequence of the lycophyte Selaginella moellendorffii (Selaginella), the first nonseed vascular plant genome reported, is reported, finding that the transition from a gametophytes- to a sporophyte-dominated life cycle required far fewer new genes than the Transition from a non Seed vascular to a flowering plant.
Journal ArticleDOI

High‐throughput mapping of cell‐wall polymers within and between plants using novel microarrays

TL;DR: A methodology that enables the occurrence of cell-wall glycans to be systematically mapped throughout plants in a semi-quantitative high-throughput fashion is described and the potential of CoMPP as a component of systems-based approaches to cell- wall biology is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Charophycean green algae as model systems to study plant cell walls and other evolutionary adaptations that gave rise to land plants.

TL;DR: Examination of gene diversity and evolution within the Charophycean green algae could help reveal when and how the molecular pathways required for synthesis of key structural polymers in land plants arose.
