Journal ArticleDOI
A Population-Based Study on the Frequency of Additional Congenital Malformations in Infants with Congenital Hypothyroidism: Data from the Italian Registry for Congenital Hypothyroidism (1991–1998)
Olivieri A,Maria Antonietta Stazi,Pierpaolo Mastroiacovo,Cristina Fazzini,Emanuela Medda,A. Spagnolo,S. De Angelis,Michele E. Grandolfo,D. Taruscio,Viviana Cordeddu,Mariella Sorcini +10 more
TL;DR: The significantly higher frequency of extrathyroidal congenital malformations reported in the CH infants than in the general population represents a further argument supporting the role of a genetic component in the etiology of CH.
Journal ArticleDOI
H3K4me1 marks DNA regions hypomethylated during aging in human stem and differentiated cells
Agustín F. Fernández,Gustavo F. Bayón,Rocío G. Urdinguio,Estela G. Toraño,María Begoña González García,Antonella Carella,Sandra Petrus-Reurer,Cecilia Ferrero,Pablo Martínez-Camblor,Isabel Cubillo,Javier García-Castro,Jesus Delgado-Calle,Flor M. Pérez-Campo,José A. Riancho,Clara Bueno,Pablo Menendez,Anouk Mentink,Katia Mareschi,Katia Mareschi,Fabian Claire,Corrado Fagnani,Emanuela Medda,Virgilia Toccaceli,Sonia Brescianini,Sebastian Moran,Manel Esteller,Alexandra Stolzing,Alexandra Stolzing,Jan de Boer,Jan de Boer,Lorenza Nisticò,Maria Antonietta Stazi,Mario F. Fraga,Mario F. Fraga +33 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the dynamics of DNA methylation during aging depend on a complex mixture of factors that include the DNA sequence, cell type, and chromatin context involved and that, depending on the locus, the changes can be modulated by genetic and/or external factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endometriosis and organochlorinated environmental pollutants: a case-control study on Italian women of reproductive age
Maria Grazia Porpora,Emanuela Medda,Annalisa Abballe,Simone Bolli,Isabella De Angelis,Alessandro Di Domenico,Annamaria Ferro,Anna Maria Ingelido,Antonella Maggi,Pierluigi Benedetti Panici,Elena De Felip +10 more
TL;DR: The results of this study show that an association exists between increased PCB and p,p′-DDE serum concentrations and the risk of endometriosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk factors for congenital hypothyroidism: results of a population case-control study (1997-2003).
Emanuela Medda,Antonella Olivieri,Maria Antonietta Stazi,Michele E. Grandolfo,Cristina Fazzini,Mariangiola Baserga,Massimo Burroni,Emanuele Cacciari,Francesca Calaciura,Alessandra Cassio,Luca Chiovato,Pietro Costa,Daniela Leonardi,Maria Martucci,Lidia Moschini,Severo Pagliardini,Giuseppe Parlato,Alberto Pignero,Aldo Pinchera,Danielle Sala,Lidia Sava,Vera Stoppioni,Francesco Tancredi,Fabiola Valentini,Riccardo Vigneri,Mariella Sorcini +25 more
TL;DR: The results suggested a multifactorial origin of CH in which genetic and environmental factors play a role in the development of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic and environmental variation in educational attainment: an individual-based analysis of 28 twin cohorts.
Karri Silventoinen,Karri Silventoinen,Aline Jelenkovic,Aline Jelenkovic,Reijo Sund,Reijo Sund,Antti Latvala,Chika Honda,Fujio Inui,Fujio Inui,Rie Tomizawa,Mikio Watanabe,Norio Sakai,Esther Rebato,Andreas Busjahn,Jessica Tyler,John L. TL;DR: Both genetic and environmental factors shared by co-twins have an important influence on individual differences in educational attainment, and the effect of genetic factors on educational attainment has decreased from the cohorts born before to those born after the 1950s.
