TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the representativeness of flux footprints and evaluate potential biases as a consequence of the footprint-to-target-area mismatch, which can be used as a guide to identify site-periods suitable for specific applications.

A novel approach to evaluate soil heat flux calculation: An analytical review of nine methods
Zhongming Gao,Eric S. Russell,Justine E. C. Missik,Maoyi Huang,Xingyuan Chen,Christopher E. Strickland,Ray E. Clayton,Evan V. Arntzen,Yulong Ma,Heping Liu +9 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Impacts of soil heat flux calculation methods on the surface energy balance closure
TL;DR: In this paper, nine different methods were evaluated ranging from conventional heat-storage calorimetry to methods derived directly from the heat transfer equation to quantify uncertainty in determining the surface soil heat fluxes (G0) to close the surface energy balance in micrometeorological studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large eddies modulating flux convergence and divergence in a disturbed unstable atmospheric surface layer
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of large eddies on turbulence structures and flux transport were studied using data collected over a flat cotton field during the Energy Balance Experiment 2000 in the San Joaquin Valley of California in August 2000.
