The spread of artemisinin-resistant Plasmodium falciparum in the Greater Mekong subregion: a molecular epidemiology observational study
Mallika Imwong,Kanokon Suwannasin,Chanon Kunasol,Kreepol Sutawong,Mayfong Mayxay,Mayfong Mayxay,Huy Rekol,Frank Smithuis,Tin Maung Hlaing,Kyaw Myo Tun,Rob W. van der Pluijm,Rob W. van der Pluijm,Rupam Tripura,Olivo Miotto,Olivo Miotto,Didier Menard,Mehul Dhorda,Nicholas P. J. Day,Nicholas P. J. Day,Nicholas J. White,Nicholas J. White,Arjen M. Dondorp,Arjen M. Dondorp +22 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the dominant artemisinin-resistant P falciparum C580Y lineage probably arose in western Cambodia and then spread to Thailand and Laos, outcompeting other parasites and acquiring piperaquine resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolution and expansion of multidrug-resistant malaria in southeast Asia: a genomic epidemiology study

TL;DR: After emerging and circulating for several years within Cambodia, the P falciparum KEL1/PLA1 co-lineage diversified into multiple subgroups and acquired new genetic features, including novel crt mutations.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors collected and analyzed up to 18 y of monthly dengue surveillance reports on a total of 3.5 million reported cases from 273 provinces in eight countries in Southeast Asia, covering ∼ 10(7) km(2).
Journal ArticleDOI

White,Nicholas J. White +100 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that, if used as part of a comprehensive, well-organised, and well-resourced elimination programme, dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine MDA can be a useful additional tool to accelerate malaria elimination.

Gibbons,John Mark Velasco,In-Kyu Yoon,Donald S. Burke,Derek A. T. Cummings +28 more
TL;DR: It is shown that periods of elevated temperatures can drive the occurrence of synchronous dengue epidemics across the region, and forcing mechanisms that drive synchronization of denge epidemics on a continental scale across Southeast Asia are revealed.
