Journal ArticleDOI
Transmission of the Diachasmimorpha longicaudata rhabdovirus (DlRhV) to wasp offspring: an ultrastructural analysis.
TL;DR: The hypothesis that DlRhV is transmitted transovarially or through larval feeding on infected host hemolymph is supported and further studies are needed to determine whether the Dl RhV that ultimately resides within the female wasp's accessory gland filaments is the progeny of the virus from the egg and/or larval midgut cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of Host-Driven Mutagenesis in Determining Genome Evolution of Sigma Virus (DMelSV; Rhabdoviridae) in Drosophila melanogaster
Helen Piontkivska,Luis F. Matos,Sinu Paul,Brian Scharfenberg,William G. Farmerie,Michael M. Miyamoto,Marta L. Wayne +6 more
TL;DR: In DMelSV, host mutagenesis is constraining viral evolution both within and between hosts, and there is evidence of mutations segregating within hosts, hereafter referred to as hypervariable sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Facilitating Growth through Frustration: Using Genomics Research in a Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience.

TL;DR: It is suggested that a dynamic of “formative frustration” is an important aspect for a successful CURE, because iterations can be performed quickly and are inexpensive in both time and money.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sigma virus and male reproductive success in Drosophila melanogaster
Clare C. Rittschof,Clare C. Rittschof,Swetapadma Pattanaik,Laura Johnson,Luis F. Matos,Luis F. Matos,Jérémie Brusini,Marta L. Wayne +7 more
TL;DR: Viral infection may provide males an advantage in sperm competition, or, possibly, females may preferentially use infected sperm in sexual conflict in Drosophila melanogaster.
Journal Article
Virulence evolution in a host–parasite system in the absence of viral evolution
TL;DR: Titre did respond to selection in the biparental regime, although both high and control lines both demonstrated increased titre, while the titre of the low lines did not change.
