TL;DR: In this article, the authors used epigenome-wide association to show that body mass index (BMI), a key measure of adiposity, is associated with widespread changes in DNA methylation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential Effects of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy and Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass on Appetite, Circulating Acyl-ghrelin, Peptide YY3-36 and Active GLP-1 Levels in Non-diabetic Humans
Ahmed Yousseif,Julian J. Emmanuel,Efthimia Karra,Queensta Millet,Mohamed Elkalaawy,Mohamed Elkalaawy,Andrew Jenkinson,Majid Hashemi,Marco Adamo,Nick Finer,Alberic G. Fiennes,Dominic J. Withers,Rachel L. Batterham +12 more
TL;DR: This study prospectively investigated appetite and gut hormone changes in response to LRYGBP and LSG in adiposity-matched non-diabetic patients and produced comparable enhanced satiety and weight loss, however, LSG and LryGBP differentially altered gut hormone profiles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Early postoperative weight loss predicts maximal weight loss after sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.
Sean Manning,Andrea Pucci,Nicholas C. Carter,Mohamed Elkalaawy,Mohamed Elkalaawy,Giorgia Querci,Silvia Magno,Anna Tamberi,Nick Finer,Alberic G. Fiennes,Majid Hashemi,Andrew Jenkinson,Marco Anselmino,Ferruccio Santini,Marco Adamo,Rachel L. Batterham +15 more
TL;DR: Early postoperative weight loss can be used to identify patients whose predicted weight loss trajectories are suboptimal and early targeting of poor responders with more intensive postoperative lifestyle and behavioural support could potentially enhance their weight loss response.
Journal ArticleDOI
Type 2 diabetes remission 2 years post Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy: the role of the weight loss and comparison of DiaRem and DiaBetter scores.
Andrea Pucci,Andrea Pucci,Urszula Tymoszuk,WH Cheung,WH Cheung,Janine M. Makaronidis,Janine M. Makaronidis,S. Scholes,G. Tharakan,Mohamed Elkalaawy,Marta Guimarães,Mário Nora,Majid Hashemi,Andrew Jenkinson,Marco Adamo,Mariana P. Monteiro,Nick Finer,Nick Finer,Rachel L. Batterham,Rachel L. Batterham +19 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to compare the DiaRem with the DiaBetter score that includes diabetes duration, upon combined (complete plus partial) 2‐year post‐surgery diabetes remission in people following RYGB and sleeve gastrectomy, and to investigate the relationship between weight loss and diabetes remission.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reported appetite, taste and smell changes following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy: Effect of gender, type 2 diabetes and relationship to post-operative weight loss.
Janine M. Makaronidis,Sabrina Neilson,WH Cheung,Urszula Tymoszuk,Andrea Pucci,Andrea Pucci,Nick Finer,Nick Finer,Jacqueline Doyle,Majid Hashemi,Majid Hashemi,Mohamed Elkalaawy,Marco Adamo,Andrew Jenkinson,Rachel L. Batterham,Rachel L. Batterham +15 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of appetite changes decreased significantly with time following RYGB and SG, and the relationship between food aversions, changes in appetite, taste and smell and %WL was assessed.
