Genome 10K: A Proposal to Obtain Whole-Genome Sequence for 10 000 Vertebrate Species

David Haussler, +69 more
- 01 Nov 2009 -
TL;DR: A precipitous drop in costs and increase in sequencing efficiency is anticipated, with concomitant development of improved annotation technology, and it is proposed to create a collection of tissue and DNA specimens for 10,000 vertebrate species specifically designated for whole-genome sequencing in the very near future.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evolution and Biogeography of Deep-Sea Vent and Seep Invertebrates

TL;DR: The recent evolution of many vent and seep invertebrate species suggests that Cenozoic tectonic history and oceanic circulation patterns have been important in defining contemporary biogeographic patterns.
Journal ArticleDOI

Osedax: Bone-Eating Marine Worms with Dwarf Males

TL;DR: A new genus, Osedax, and two new species of annelids with females that consume the bones of dead whales via ramifying roots are described, which belongs to the Siboglinidae, which includes pogonophoran and vestimentiferan worms from deep-sea vents, seeps, and anoxic basins.
