Journal ArticleDOI

Genome-wide association scan in women with systemic lupus erythematosus identifies susceptibility variants in ITGAM, PXK, KIAA1542 and other loci.

TL;DR: The results show that numerous genes, some with known immune-related functions, predispose to SLE, and evidence of association with replication is found at FCGR2A, PTPN22 and STAT4, regions previously associated with SLE and other autoimmune diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increased Risk of Lymphoma in Sicca Syndrome

TL;DR: Patients with a history of parotid enlargement, splenomegaly, and lymphadenopahy had an increased risk of lymphoma and clinical conditions did not appear to be early manifestations of undiagnosed lymphoma but rather seemed to identify a subgroup of patients with sicca syndrome with marked lymphoid reactivity, who had a particularly high risk of subsequently developing lymphoma.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cutting Edge: A Role for B Lymphocyte Stimulator in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

TL;DR: The results suggest that BLyS may be a useful marker for early activation of an autoimmune diathesis and likely plays a critical role in triggering activation of self-Ag-driven autoimmune B cells in human SLE and may provide an effective therapeutic target in systemic autoimmunity.
