Journal ArticleDOI

Choosing the right cell line for breast cancer research

TL;DR: The issues surrounding the use of breast cancer cell lines as experimental models are discussed, in light of these revised clinical classifications, and suggestions for improving their use in translational breast cancer research are put forward.
Journal ArticleDOI

Critical research gaps and translational priorities for the successful prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

Suzanne A. Eccles, +86 more
TL;DR: With resources to conduct further high-quality targeted research focusing on the gaps identified, increased knowledge translating into improved clinical care should be achievable within five years.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of microfluidic digital PCR and conventional quantitative PCR for measuring copy number variation

TL;DR: To investigate the potential precision of dPCR and compare it with the established technique of quantitative PCR, this work used breast cancer cell lines to investigate HER2 gene amplification and modelled a range of different CNVs to show that, with equal experimental replication,dPCR could measure a smaller CNV than qPCR.
Journal ArticleDOI

Breast cancer cell lines: friend or foe?

TL;DR: The pros and cons of using established breast cancer cell lines as in vitro models and cultures established from primary breast tumours in translational breast cancer research are discussed.
