Sliding-Window Aggregation Algorithms: Tutorial

Abstract: Stream processing is important for analyzing continuous streams of data in real time. Sliding-window aggregation is both needed for many streaming applications and surprisingly hard to do efficiently. Picking the wrong aggregation algorithm causes poor performance, and knowledge of the right algorithms and when to use them is scarce. This paper was written to accompany a tutorial, but can be read as a stand-alone survey that aims to better educate the community about fast sliding-window aggregation algorithms for a variety of common aggregation operations and window types.

Information Transmission Among World Major Gold Futures Markets: Evidence from High Frequency Synchronous Trading Data

Abstract: This study examines the international information transmission among three major gold futures markets namely COMEX, MCX, and TOCOM. Two well documented approaches, which are VECM and information share, are utilized to measure the process of price discovery under this trivariate system. The uniqueness of this study is that it employs synchronous intraday time series which can mitigate the stale price problem from daily observations. The evidences indicate that the three gold futures prices are cointegrated and driven by one common factor. New arrival information disseminates efficiently among the three markets and the pricing information transmission among exchanges is very rapid. However, the lead-lag relationship among markets still exists with the dominance of COMEX gold futures as the centre of price discovery.

SnO2-graphene composite gas sensor for a room temperature detection of ethanol.

Abstract: In ethanol production, it is useful to monitor the state of fermentation using a sensor that provides real-time measurement but does not disturb the process. We propose here a tin oxide (SnO2)-reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite chemiresistive sensor that can be operated on low power and installed in a compact area for the monitoring of ethanol vapor. The sensor exhibited outstanding sensing responses to 29-145 ppm ethanol vapor, providing a sensitivity of 12 ppm-1, a response time of 123 ± 6, recovery time of 128 ± 42 s, and a limit of detection of 3 ppm. The sensor showed good selectivity to ethanol over carbon dioxide, acetic acid and water vapor. The sensing mechanism of the sensor relies on the reaction of ethanol vapor and chemisorbed oxygen species in which the reaction rate increases due to an abundance of the chemisorbed oxygen within n-p heterojunctions of SnO2-rGO.
