TL;DR: This agricultural review covers such areas as the meaning, importance and factors influencing extension technology adoption, importance of yam production in Nigeria, the yam minisett technology and its advantages over milking, the farmers traditional method of seed yamProduction.
Abstract: Nigeria is the highest producer of yam in the whole world. Yam is a staple food crop for many Nigerians. Despite this position of Nigeria in the world's yam production, the problem of seed yam for the cultivation of this all important crop has been a perennial one to yam growers in the country. In order to address the above problem, the National Root Crop Research Institutes (NRCRI) in Nigeria, in collaboration with the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), developed the yam minisett technology. This extension technology was transferred to yam growers for adoption through the States Agriculture Development Programmes (ADP). This agricultural review covers such areas as the meaning, importance and factors influencing extension technology adoption, importance of yam production in Nigeria, the yam minisett technology and its advantages over milking, the farmers traditional method of seed yam production.

TL;DR: In this article, four predictive empirical models for estimating permeabilities (RGPZ model, Van Baaren's model, Timur's model and Berg's model) were applied to two different reservoirs in a single well from an oil field in the Niger Delta.
Abstract: Aimed at determining a more reliable method of estimating permeability from well log data, in the absence of core data, 4 predictive empirical models for estimating permeabilities (RGPZ model, Van Baaren’s model, Timur’s model and Berg’s model) were applied to two different reservoirs in a single well from an oil field in the Niger Delta. With the models employed at different cementation factors (m=1.5, 1.65, 1.80, 1.95, 2.10, 2.25, 2.40, 2.55, 2.70, 2.85, 3.00), using well log data from the reservoirs of interest, as a function of depth, measures of normalized root mean square error (NRMSE), relative to permeabilities measured from core analysis at the same reservoir interval, were used to determine which predictive model was more reliable. Obtained results showed the most reliable predictive model at m=1.65. At this cementation factor, the NRMSE for RGPZ model, Van Baaren’s model, Timur’s model and Berg’s model were 4.95, 30.38, 1.85, and 1.20 respectively in the first reservoir and 4.28, 24.69, 1.56 and 1.09 respectively in the second reservoir. Hence, Van Baaren’s model provided a more reliable measure of in-situ permeabilities in the reservoirs of the Niger delta as it had a lower measure of NRMSE in the reservoirs of interest.

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of non-formal education on entrepreneurship skill development among rural farmers in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State was evaluated using a descriptive survey.
Abstract: The purpose of the article was to determine the influence of non-formal education on entrepreneurship skill development among rural farmers in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. The study design was descriptive survey. The target population was six hundred and fifty (650) members of the farmers' co-operative societies in the Ikwerre Local Government Area. The sample size was two hundred (200) farmers purposively selected based on the size of farm holdings. Instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire in a 4-point rating scale of agreement. The instrument was tested using Cronbach Alpha reliability test and was found to be reliable at 0.79. Data collected were analyzed descriptively using mean and standard deviation. The findings showed that community outreach, on-the-job training and co-operative training programmes were veritable tools for rural farmers' entrepreneurship skill development. Hence, the need to situate agricultural entrepreneurship centres in the rural area was recommended.

TL;DR: In this article, the expository styles of science teachers in Rivers State, Nigeria were analysed using the Science Teaching Observation Schedule. And four clusters emerged: 1) the presentation of factual information was unremitting throughout every lesson and 2) the clusters arise from variations in less frequent categories of interaction and 3) there was a marked concentration on experimental procedures, not usually accompanied by practical activities.
Abstract: As a preliminary to a study of the expository styles of science teachers (reported in Part IT) 54 biology, chemistry and integrated science lessons in Rivers State, Nigeria were analysed using the Science Teaching Observation Schedule. Forty‐two lessons were observed directly and the remainder analysed from transcripts. Four clusters emerged. It is shown that the presentation of factual information was unremitting throughout every lesson and that the clusters arise from variations in less frequent categories of interaction. Cluster 1 lessons (N= 13) involve little other than information giving. Cluster 2 lessons (N=21) include fairly extensive questioning of a factual and simple problem‐solving nature. Cluster 3 lessons (N= 9) include, in addition, a marked concentration on experimental procedures, not usually accompanied by practical activities. Cluster 4 (N=11), which persists when the analysis is reduced to a two cluster solution, is characterised by moderate levels of teachers' statements rel...

TL;DR: It is concluded that even though adequate capital and strong family relationships are very important variables for the survival of the business, they do not guarantee success.
Abstract: This study examines the problems and prospects of a family business in Nigeria. The responses were 143 proprietors and officials of family businesses in Rivers State, Nigeria. The sampling procedure adopted was the systematic sampling method while data collection was through questionnaire. The proposed hypotheses were tested using Chi-square(x2) test statistics at the level of 0.05 of significance. The fundamental problems of family business identified by this study are: managerial, financial, personnel, marketing, and production. The prospects are employment for family members, wealth creation through hard-work, opportunities for survival allow growth and expansion, and guarantees steady income for family members. We concluded that even though adequate capital and strong family relationships are very important variables for the survival of the business, they do not guarantee success.
