TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine factors that control the measured displacement-fault length relationships of natural faults and suggest that there may be systematic differences between the dmax/L ratios where length is measured parallel or normal to the displacement vector, and where the growth histories of individual faults vary due to the nature and number of slip events, linkage and reactivation.

TL;DR: A multilayered collimator system has been constructed as a practical means to locate the dose ends by measuring prompt gammas and clearly indicated correlations between the gamma distributions and the distal falloff regions.
Abstract: The location of the distal falloff in the proton therapy is an important but often uncertain parameter as different tissue elements are traversed by the beam. A multilayered collimator system has been constructed as a practical means to locate the dose ends by measuring prompt gammas. The collimator is designed to moderate and capture fast neutrons and to prevent unwanted gammas from reaching the scintillation detector. The system has been studied using Monte Carlo technique and has been tested in the beam energy range of 100–200MeV. Measurements clearly indicated correlations between the gamma distributions and the distal falloff regions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that the change in the summer rainfall over the Yangtze River valley is associated with the variations of the sea surface temperatures (SSTs) of the eastern tropical Pacific and tropical Indian Ocean.
Abstract: [1] The summer rainfall over the middle-lower valley of the Yangtze River and over the whole eastern China experienced a notable regime shift in about 1979. This change is consistent with a simultaneous jump-like change in the 500 hPa geopotential height (Φ500) over the northern Pacific. The rainfall over the Yangtze River valley is closely related to the Φ500 averaged over the area 20°–25°N, 125°–140°E, with a correlation coefficient of 0.66 for the period 1958–1999. Since 1980, the subtropical northwestern Pacific high (SNPH) has enlarged, intensified, and extended southwestward. The changes in the SNPH are strongly associated with the variations of the sea surface temperatures (SSTs) of the eastern tropical Pacific and tropical Indian Ocean. The anomalies of these SSTs, responsible primarily for the shift of the summer rainfall over the Yangtze River through the changes in SNPH, precede the Φ500 signals with different leading times.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors set out to better understand the current burden of AIP at several academic institutions diagnosed using the International Consensus Diagnostic Criteria, and to describe long-term outcomes, including organs involved, treatments, relapse frequency and longterm sequelae.
Abstract: Objective Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a treatable form of chronic pancreatitis that has been increasingly recognised over the last decade. We set out to better understand the current burden of AIP at several academic institutions diagnosed using the International Consensus Diagnostic Criteria, and to describe long-term outcomes, including organs involved, treatments, relapse frequency and long-term sequelae. Design 23 institutions from 10 different countries participated in this multinational analysis. A total of 1064 patients meeting the International Consensus Diagnostic Criteria for type 1 (n=978) or type 2 (n=86) AIP were included. Data regarding treatments, relapses and sequelae were obtained. Results The majority of patients with type 1 (99%) and type 2 (92%) AIP who were treated with steroids went into clinical remission. Most patients with jaundice required biliary stent placement (71% of type 1 and 77% of type 2 AIP). Relapses were more common in patients with type 1 (31%) versus type 2 AIP (9%, p Conclusions AIP is a global disease which uniformly displays a high response to steroid treatment and tendency to relapse in the pancreas and biliary tree. Potential long-term sequelae include pancreatic duct stones and malignancy, however they were uncommon during the study period and require additional follow-up. Additional studies investigating prevention and treatment of disease relapses are needed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new homing guidance law is proposed to impact a target with a desired attitude angle, which is a variation of the conventional proportional navigation guidance (PNG) law which includes a supplementary time varying bias.
Abstract: A new homing guidance law is proposed to impact a target with a desired attitude angle. It is a variation of the conventional proportional navigation guidance (PNG) law which includes a supplementary time-varying bias. The proposed guidance law does not require a time-to-go estimation and has a simpler form. Analytic conditions for fulfilling the guidance goal are also provided. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed guidance law has wider launch envelopes than the previous one and shows a good performance even against a maneuvering target.
