TL;DR: The potential IP implications of co-creation for companies operating in industry fields that heavily rely (or are planning to heavily rely) upon 3DP technology are investigated and some recommendations are made as to how companies could possibly engage in co- creation with the user community in the field of 3DP.
Abstract: 3D printing (3DP) has high transformative potential as it is not only distinctive from other existing manufacturing techniques but also presents several previously unimaginable advantages. Its digital nature coupled with the availability of internet access offers the potential for radical decentralization of industrial production, as well as collaborative design of the artefacts produced. This important characteristic is advantageous not only to end users but also to commercial companies that are currently attempting to introduce this technique for manufacturing final products. One important advantage that companies could gain from this model is the possibility to engage in co-creation activities with the user community, and in this way benefiting from users’ contributions. This article begins by presenting a well-studied example of an industry that relies upon co-creation models, the software industry, in order to highlight the possible legal challenges with a particular focus on intellectual property rights. The paper then goes on to investigate the potential IP implications of co-creation for companies operating in industry fields that heavily rely (or are planning to heavily rely) upon 3DP technology. These questions are addressed from multiple perspectives based on theoretical argumentation and empirical research (in the form of case study research) with relevant stakeholders. The paper concludes with some recommendations as to how companies could possibly engage in co-creation with the user community in the field of 3DP. Keywords: Intellectual property rights; IP management; 3D printing; co-creation; commercialization; open source licensing

TL;DR: Describing parents' expectations concerning the use of music in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and to reveal any related background factors are described to describe parents' viewpoints.
Abstract: Purpose. The purpose of this study was to describe parents' expectations concerning the use of music in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and to reveal any related background factors. Design and Methods. A cross-sectional, descriptive, and correlational design guided a survey of 197 parents from five NICUs in Finland. Results. Most parents agreed that the preferred music could have positive effects on the infants, staff, and parents in the NICU. Practice Implications. When nurses consider making use of music in the NICU, it is also important to take into account the parents' viewpoints.

TL;DR: The principles of UX design are discussed with respect to the area of designing smart clothes and accessories, and three examples of concept designs, focusing on young athletes, a solar powered coat design, and a smart handbag design, are presented.
Abstract: Due to the recent years’ advances in prototyping techniques, flexible electronics, and component miniaturization, research has emerged to explore novel concepts and functionalities for wearable computing. So far, the attention has been mostly toward technical rather than user experience studies, seeking to illustrate novel and proof-of-concept-level functional prototypes. In this chapter, wearable computing is approached from the user experience (UX) design point of view. The principles of UX design are discussed with respect to the area of designing smart clothes and accessories, and three examples of concept designs, focusing on young athletes, a solar powered coat design, and a smart handbag design, are presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss Russian energy policy in three geostrategically important "Rimlands" of the Eurasian landmass (East Asia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe and the Arctic).
Abstract: In cartoons Russia is often portrayed as a grim soldier, sitting on a pipeline, cutting off gas supplies to Europe. Images like this tell us something about a drastic change which the EU-Russia relationship has undergone during the last twenty years. While Russia was in the 1990s perceived as weak, it is currently framed as a powerful state. Russia’s strengthened position was correlative of stable political system during the two presidential terms of Vladimir Putin, and a high world market price of energy, especially oil. The outcome of these two factors was that Russia managed to almost double its real GDP in the past decade. Oil and gas have been important factors in Russian foreign policy in the last fifteen years. Energy policy itself is a complex question. It includes both oil and gas fields and the energy infrastructure. The relationship between energy policy and foreign policy is often interpreted via the concept of energy security, which is defined either from a supplier’s or a customer’s point of view. After gas disputes between Russia and Ukraine (during the years 2005–2006 and 2008–2009) the question of energy security arose in political discourse both in Russia and in the European Union (EU). Finally, the presentation discusses Russian energy policy in three geostrategically important “Rimlands” of the Eurasian landmass (East Asia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe and the Arctic).
