TL;DR: In this paper, the role of demilitarization and neutralisation in the modern context of the Svalbard security regime is assessed by trying to infer possible lessons from two similar regimes, which apply to Antarctica and the Aland Islands.
Abstract: Norway will soon celebrate that 100 years ago, the former ‘no-man's land’ of the Svalbard archipelago was placed under its sovereignty. However, this paper focuses on another important and often omitted element also brought about by the 1920 Svalbard Treaty regarding its demilitarisation and neutralisation. We ask how has the Svalbard security regime been able to meet the various challenges it has faced over almost 100 years of existence? Also, given that the treaty was drafted at the beginning of the 20th century, are the security provisions of this regime already obsolete or are they seen still as valid, and more importantly functional against the backdrop of rapidly changing security realities? This paper then goes further and while it uses Svalbard as a case study, it tries to assess the role of demilitarisation and neutralisation in the modern context by trying to infer possible lessons from two similar regimes, which apply to Antarctica and the Aland Islands.

TL;DR: The theoretical underpinnings of the TravEd Research project are presented and the first cycle of the DBR process that will be carried out during an apprenticeship period aiming to develop a pedagogical model for work-based mobile learning in tourism settings/education is presented.
Abstract: The main objective of the TravEd Research project is to develop a pedagogical model that exploits mobile technologies and electronic learning environments and that is applied especially to develop decentralised tourism education in tourist destinations with extremely mobile tourism students. Developmental work on the project will be carried out through design-based research DBR. The approach to learning arises from the socio-cultural tradition inherent to the activities, culture, context, and environment in which the learning takes place. The focuses of attention are collaborative teaching-studying-learning TSL processes during which several types of applications that also enable smartphone use are utilised. This paper presents the theoretical underpinnings of the project and the first cycle of the DBR process that will be carried out during an apprenticeship period aiming to develop a pedagogical model for work-based mobile learning in tourism settings/education.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors dissected the connection between childhood homes and leadership and found that safety appeared to be the most significant feature of the female leaders' childhood homes, through mutual affection and care and through an open relationship between the home and the community.
Abstract: The purpose of this research was to dissect the connection between childhood homes and leadership. The study forms a part of a larger study on Finnish female leaders and their life paths. The following research question was set for this study: how did Finnish female leaders describe their childhood and home environment? It was studied through two specifying questions: what were the most significant features of the childhood home according to the female leaders' descriptions and what were the most important advice and tenets of the childhood home according to the female leaders' descriptions? This was a qualitative study in which 10 Finnish female leaders were interviewed in two phases in 2006 and 2011. Safety appeared the most significant feature of the female leaders' childhood homes. The safe atmosphere was created through mutual affection and care and through an open relationship between the home and the community. The most important tenets and advice learned from the childhood home were the values of ...
