TL;DR: In this paper, a novel partially reflective surface (PRS) antenna with the capability of beam steering is presented, which is realized by employing a reconfigurable PRS structure to achieve a changeable reflection phase as well as using a phased array as the source to excite the PRS antenna.
Abstract: The design of a novel partially reflective surface (PRS) antenna with the capability of beam steering is presented in this paper. The beam steering is realized by employing a reconfigurable PRS structure to achieve a changeable reflection phase as well as using a phased array as the source to excite the PRS antenna. A prototype antenna including the biasing network is fabricated and measured. It achieves a consistent beam steering from – 15° to 15° with respect to the broadside direction across an overlapped frequency range from 5.5 to 5.7 GHz with measured realized gains over 12 dBi. Good agreement between the simulated and measured results for the input reflection coefficients and radiation patterns is achieved, which validates the feasibility of the design principle. Compared with other beam steering PRS antennas, the proposed one enables a larger beam steering angle with comparable gains, requires a simpler biasing network, and is more compact.

TL;DR: An approach for automatic liver segmentation from computed tomography (CT) scans that is based on a statistical shape model (SSM) integrated with an optimal-surface-detection strategy based on graph theory is presented.
Abstract: In this letter, we present an approach for automatic liver segmentation from computed tomography (CT) scans that is based on a statistical shape model (SSM) integrated with an optimal-surface-detection strategy. The proposed method is a hybrid method that combines three steps. First, we use localization of the average liver shape model in a test CT volume via 3-D generalized Hough transform. Second, we use subspace initialization of the SSM through intensity and gradient profile. Third, we deform the shape model to adapt to liver contour through an optimal-surface-detection approach based on graph theory. The proposed method is evaluated on MICCAI 2007 liver-segmentation challenge datasets. The experiment results demonstrate availability of the proposed method.

09 Sep 2013TL;DR: Attribute-based encryption (ABE) is a promising cryptographic primitive, which has been widely applied to design fine-grained access control system recently, but is being criticized for its high scheme overhead as the computational cost grows with the complexity of the access formula.
Abstract: As cloud computing becomes prevalent, more and more sensitive data is being centralized into the cloud for sharing, which brings forth new challenges for outsourced data security and privacy. Attribute-based encryption (ABE) is a promising cryptographic primitive, which has been widely applied to design fine-grained access control system recently. However, ABE is being criticized for its high scheme overhead as the computational cost grows with the complexity of the access formula. This disadvantage becomes more serious for mobile devices because they have constrained computing resources.

TL;DR: The proposed models not only enrich the theory of multigranulation rough set but also make a tentative to provide a new perspective for multiple criteria group decision making with uncertainty.
Abstract: The original Pawlaks rough set approach based on indiscernibility relation (single granularity) has been extended to multigranulation rough set structure in the recent years. Multigranulation rough set approach has become a flouring research direction in rough set theory. This paper considers rough approximation of a fuzzy concept under the framework of multigranulation over two different universes of discourse, i.e., multigranulation fuzzy rough set models over two universes. We present three types of multigranulation fuzzy rough set over two universes by the constructive approach, respectively. Some interesting properties of the proposed models are discussed and also the interrelationships between the proposed models and the existing rough set models are given. We then propose a new approach to a kind of multiple criteria group decision making problem based on multigranulation fuzzy rough set model over two universes. The decision rules and algorithm of the proposed method are given and an example of handling multiple criteria group decision making problem of clothes ranking illustrates this approach. The main contribution of this paper is twofold. One is to establish the multigranulation fuzzy rough set theory over two universes. Another is to try presenting a new approach to multiple criteria group decision making based on multigranulation fuzzy rough set over two universes. The proposed models not only enrich the theory of multigranulation rough set but also make a tentative to provide a new perspective for multiple criteria group decision making with uncertainty.

TL;DR: A van der Waals integration method was developed to deposit molecular sieving Cu-TCPP layers onto semiconductive Cu-HHTP layers to obtain highly oriented MOF-on-MOF thin films, and for the first time, the properties in different MOF layers were cascaded in sequence and synergistically produced an enhanced device function.
Abstract: Heterostructured metal-organic framework (MOF)-on-MOF thin films have the potential to cascade the various properties of different MOF layers in a sequence to produce functions that cannot be achieved by single MOF layers. An integration method that relies on van der Waals interactions, and which overcomes the lattice-matching limits of reported methods, has been developed. The method deposits molecular sieving Cu-TCPP (TCPP=5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin) layers onto semiconductive Cu-HHTP (HHTP=2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydrotriphenylene) layers to obtain highly oriented MOF-on-MOF thin films. For the first time, the properties in different MOF layers were cascaded in sequence to synergistically produce an enhanced device function. Cu-TCPP-on-Cu-HHTP demonstrated excellent selectivity and the highest response to benzene of the reported recoverable chemiresistive sensing materials that are active at room temperature. This method allows integration of MOFs with cascading properties into advanced functional materials.
