Abstract
Ultrasonic guided wave inspection is expanding rapidly to many different areas of manufacturing and in-service inspection. The purpose of this paper is to provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential aswe move forward into the new millennium. An increased understanding of the basic physics and wave mechanics associated with guided wave inspection has led to an increase in practical nondestructive evaluation and inspection problems. Some fundamental concepts and a number of different applications that are currently being considered will be presented in the paper along with a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guided wave inspection commonplace in the next century.

Spectral Finite Element: Equivalent Force and Equivalent Stiffness Methods

TL;DR: In this paper, the vibration characteristics of 3-D structures consisting of notched rods are studied using Spectral Finite Element Method in conjunction with perturbation techniques, and two new methods, Equivalent Force Method and Equivalent Stiffness Method, which enable systematic calculation of displacements are presented.

Identification of Delamination Defects in CFRP Materials through Lamb Wave Responses

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed a method to more easily detect delamination damage within composite materials using finite element analysis modeling and lab testing, a new method from interpreting the results obtained from existing structural health monitoring techniques is developed.

Numerical modeling of guided waves in pipe-like structures

TL;DR: In this paper, wave propagation excited by surface-mounted instruments such as PZT and MFC transducer rings in an infinite======isotropic hollow cylinder is investigated both analytically and numerically.

Composite piezoelectric strip transducer development for structural health monitoring

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a Doppler laser vibrometer to visualize wave propagation and applied finite element simulation to eliminate artificial end-wall reflections in a square domain bounded by four PFC transducers.

Ultrasonic Waves in Solid Media

TL;DR: In this article, the theory of elasticity was introduced and basic formulas and concepts in complex variables in the theory and application of wave propagation were discussed. But the authors did not consider the effects of wave scattering on the wave propagation experiments.
