Ultrasonic guided wave inspection is expanding rapidly to many different areas of manufacturing and in-service inspection. The purpose of this paper is to provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential aswe move forward into the new millennium. An increased understanding of the basic physics and wave mechanics associated with guided wave inspection has led to an increase in practical nondestructive evaluation and inspection problems. Some fundamental concepts and a number of different applications that are currently being considered will be presented in the paper along with a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guided wave inspection commonplace in the next century.read more

TL;DR: In this article, a generic formulation for phased array directional beamforming using the exact traveling waves formulation without the limiting parallel-rays assumption has been implemented in the EUSR LabVIEW program and its performance has been verified through simulation and experimental tests.

Embedded Ultrasonic NDE with Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensors
TL;DR: The use of piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS) for embedded ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) is described in this paper, where the interaction between PWAS and ultrasonic Lamb waves is modeled and analyzed, and excitation "sweet spots" for preferentially exciting certain Lamb wave modes are identified.

A Stoneley wave method to detect interlaminar damage of metal layer composite pipe
TL;DR: In this article, a Stoneley wave method is presented to detect interlaminar damage in laminated pipe structure, which is a major form of damage in metal layer composite pipes which are widely used in petroleum and chemical industry.

Development of a mode-tuning magnetic-concentrator-type electromagnetic acoustic transducer.
TL;DR: A mode-tuning magnetic-concentrator-type electromagnetic acoustic transducer (MT-MC-EMAT) is proposed, and both finite element simulation and experiment proved that the mode generated by this transducers was tunable after adding the different types of magnetic concentrators.

Ultrasonic Waves in Solid Media
TL;DR: In this article, the theory of elasticity was introduced and basic formulas and concepts in complex variables in the theory and application of wave propagation were discussed. But the authors did not consider the effects of wave scattering on the wave propagation experiments.
