TLDR
In this article, the authors provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential as we move forward into the new millennium and provide a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guidance wave inspection commonplace in the next century.Abstract:
Ultrasonic guided wave inspection is expanding rapidly to many different areas of manufacturing and in-service inspection. The purpose of this paper is to provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential aswe move forward into the new millennium. An increased understanding of the basic physics and wave mechanics associated with guided wave inspection has led to an increase in practical nondestructive evaluation and inspection problems. Some fundamental concepts and a number of different applications that are currently being considered will be presented in the paper along with a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guided wave inspection commonplace in the next century.read more

Activating and Receiving Lamb Waves
Zhongqing Su,Lin Ye +1 more
TL;DR: This work has shown that piezoelectric materials, widely used to build a variety of transducers for activating and receiving Lamb waves, can be integrated with host structures under monitoring to achieve automated damage identification and structural health monitoring techniques.

Determining Localized Anode Condition to Maintain Effective Corrosion Protection
TL;DR: In this article, two different technologies, ultrasound and electrical circuit resistance combined with water permeability, were investigated in the laboratory to determine whether they were feasible methods for estimating anode condition.

Imaging of Lamination Defect in Metallic Plate Based on Local Wavenumber Domain Analysis
TL;DR: In this article, a wave-propagation phenomenon of multiple reflection and transmission is observed between the interaction of Lamb waves and the lamination, and a fully noncontact detection system consisting of an electromagnetic acoustic transducer and laser ultrasonic inspection system is established to inspect the artificial machined beam structure.

Automated defect localization via low rank plus outlier modeling of propagating wavefield data
Stefano Gonella,Jarvis Haupt +1 more
TL;DR: The proposed approach couples spatiotemporal windowing with low rank plus outlier modeling, to identify a priori unknown deviations in the propagating wavefields caused by material inhomogeneities or defects, using virtually no knowledge of the structural and material properties of the medium.

First approach to uav-based contact inspection: a smart payload for navigation in the neighbourhood of structures
L. M. González-de Santos,Joaquín Martínez-Sánchez,Higinio González-Jorge,A. Novo,Pedro Arias +4 more
TL;DR: A smart payload developed for navigation in the neighbourhood of structures is presented, able to control the distance to a structure and the angle formed by the UAV and the structure in the horizontal plane.

Wave propagation in elastic solids
TL;DR: In this article, the linearized theory of elasticity was introduced and the elasticity of a one-dimensional motion of an elastic continuum was modeled as an unbound elastic continuum.

Wave Motion in Elastic Solids
TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive study of elastic wave propagation in solids is presented, ranging from the theory of waves and vibrations in strings to the three-dimensional theory of elastic waves in thick plates.

Ultrasonic Waves in Solid Media
TL;DR: In this article, the theory of elasticity was introduced and basic formulas and concepts in complex variables in the theory and application of wave propagation were discussed. But the authors did not consider the effects of wave scattering on the wave propagation experiments.
