Abstract
Ultrasonic guided wave inspection is expanding rapidly to many different areas of manufacturing and in-service inspection. The purpose of this paper is to provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential aswe move forward into the new millennium. An increased understanding of the basic physics and wave mechanics associated with guided wave inspection has led to an increase in practical nondestructive evaluation and inspection problems. Some fundamental concepts and a number of different applications that are currently being considered will be presented in the paper along with a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guided wave inspection commonplace in the next century.

A Graphical Edge Method to Solve Dispersion Equation of Lamb Waves

TL;DR: In this paper, a graphical-edge method is presented to simplify the process of solving dispersion equation of Lamb wave, which can represent complex and abstract formulas graphically, simplifies the solution process and improves the solution efficiency.

A Pipe Inspection Using a Circumferential SH-Mode Plate Wave Generated in a Pipe by an Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT)

TL;DR: In this paper, a trial sensor using an electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT), which can generate the SH-mode plate wave propagating in the circumferential direction, has been developed to realize this objective.

Frequency wavenumber design of spiral macro fiber composite directional transducers

TL;DR: This work is focused on design and testing of a novel class of transducers for Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), able to perform directional interrogation of plate-like structures, with enhanced performance, reduced complexity, and reduced hardware requirements of such devices.
Journal ArticleDOI

Finite element simulation of guided waves in pipelines for long range monitoring against third party attacks

TL;DR: In this article, the use of low frequency (below 10 kHz) guided wave (GW) to detect damage caused by a third party is investigated and field test data on a 1 km long pipeline are compared with finite element (FE) predictions.

Ultrasonic Waves in Solid Media

TL;DR: In this article, the theory of elasticity was introduced and basic formulas and concepts in complex variables in the theory and application of wave propagation were discussed. But the authors did not consider the effects of wave scattering on the wave propagation experiments.
