Abstract
Ultrasonic guided wave inspection is expanding rapidly to many different areas of manufacturing and in-service inspection. The purpose of this paper is to provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential aswe move forward into the new millennium. An increased understanding of the basic physics and wave mechanics associated with guided wave inspection has led to an increase in practical nondestructive evaluation and inspection problems. Some fundamental concepts and a number of different applications that are currently being considered will be presented in the paper along with a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guided wave inspection commonplace in the next century.

Experimental Investigation on Acousto-ultrasonic Sensing Using Polarization-Maintaining Fiber Bragg Gratings

TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of the polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber Bragg grating (PM-FBG) sensor was evaluated in composite structural health monitoring (SHM) applications in order to realize directivity and multi-axis strain sensing capabilities using reduced number of sensors.

Summary of Nuclear Power Plant Prognostics and Health Management Report: PNNL-21515

TL;DR: The state of the art in prognostic and health management systems for nuclear power plants was recently reviewed and presented in a report (PNNL-21515); this paper summarizes the key findings of that review as mentioned in this paper.

Research for Evaluation Method Based on Lamb Waves for Thickness of Ship Deck Beams

TL;DR: In this paper, a detecting method based on active Lamb waves is proposed, which could evaluate the thickness of beams, and experiments are carried out to suppress measurement noise effectively, variational mode decomposition (VMD) is used to extract experimental signal feature parameters and the three damage indexes are also used to evaluate the beam thickness.

Ultrasonic Waves in Solid Media

TL;DR: In this article, the theory of elasticity was introduced and basic formulas and concepts in complex variables in the theory and application of wave propagation were discussed. But the authors did not consider the effects of wave scattering on the wave propagation experiments.
