Abstract
Ultrasonic guided wave inspection is expanding rapidly to many different areas of manufacturing and in-service inspection. The purpose of this paper is to provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential aswe move forward into the new millennium. An increased understanding of the basic physics and wave mechanics associated with guided wave inspection has led to an increase in practical nondestructive evaluation and inspection problems. Some fundamental concepts and a number of different applications that are currently being considered will be presented in the paper along with a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guided wave inspection commonplace in the next century.

Rapid detection of cracks in the rail foot by ultrasonic B-scan imaging using a shear horizontal guided wave electromagnetic acoustic transducer

TL;DR: In this paper, a finite element method (FEM) based on the Bloch-Floquet boundary and domain constraint was employed to calculate the dispersion curves of shear horizontal (SH)-like guided waves propagating in the rail foot.

- 22 Dec 2006 -
TL;DR: The preliminary experimental results showed that the second-harmonic SWF of Lamb wave propagation could effectively be used to characterize changes in the surface properties of the given solid plate.

Scattering of ultrasonic-guided waves for health monitoring of fuel weep holes

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel and effective approach for nondestructive in situ structural health monitoring of a hard-to-inspect location is presented, where laser vibrometry is used to confirm that Lamb wave...

The influence of sharp edges in corrosion profiles on the reflection of guided waves

TL;DR: In this paper, a method to diagnose the presence of sharp edges in corrosion patches based on the analysis of the reflection coefficient (RC) spectrum is proposed, and the limitations of the procedure are defined.

Ultrasonic Waves in Solid Media

TL;DR: In this article, the theory of elasticity was introduced and basic formulas and concepts in complex variables in the theory and application of wave propagation were discussed. But the authors did not consider the effects of wave scattering on the wave propagation experiments.
